When the toms act as the bassline, do you ever make the toms key change in Tribal?
Or do they stay with the same key?
How would a typical tribal track progress?
I wouldnt change key at any point with the toms… you could use a pad on top to get chord changes.
for me tribal is all about deep drums and stabs
Ah ok thanks mate
i wouldnt change the key half way through a track anyway. dont think that type of sophistication works in dance. sounds better in rock/indie/beatles/coldplay shizzle.

Interesting. I would love to see you take the existing Tribal Tutorial and stretch it out into a full on track. Always had trouble getting a good arrangement on a tribal tune.
I did 2 tribal tracks that got released a few years back but when I listen back to them now they sound kind of boring and the arrangement sounds meandering with no real direction.
One was a remix I did for a track called You and Me by Jewel Kid. That one is on my soundcloud account.
And even older than that one was a track I did with a buddy of mine…the track was called Filters and Drums by Corbett & Corbo. That one came out on Steve Lawlers now defunct Harlem Records.

Yeah an extension to the tribal tutorial would be really good, just arrangement really, would like to see how it’s layed out so that it doesn’t get boring.
I’ve been making a tribal tune and although i didn’t use the tribal tutorial to help me make it, the tribal tutorial has given me some good tips on the production. I’m just stuck because i’ve got this 6 min long track but there is no key changes. There are changes in the track but only really the taking away of elements and returning, as well as different vocal samples. The drums and toms itself stay pretty static, that to me gets a bit samey.
Could really do with seeing something layed out by you if possible Phil?
rcorbo I’d really like to check out your tracks, do you have links?

I’m always hesitant to share my stuff because to be honest I think my stuff isn’t so great but you can check out my soundcloud account in my signature. There is only 3 tracks up on that account have to get around to putting more stuff on there.
You can also go to beatport and do a search on Corbo…all the results will be my stuff (except for Rob Corbo). My stuff will come up as Corbo, Rick Corbo or Ricky Corbo.
Or you can check out my very old myspacepage http://www.myspace.com/djrickcorbo
If you like anything PM me your email and I’ll send them to you.
