I Can Not Figure Out What Some of These French Disco House Producers are Doing

Take this track. I understand sample chop. But there are FX on here and the such to get it to sound like it does and I can’t for the life of me figure out how they do it. Anyone have any ideas. The sample is of Alex C has it says in the comments, and you can hear the sample doesn’t have a lot of the rawness in sound that the sample has in Poka’s track.

Is the effect some sort of side-chain compression with some backwards reverb applied to the vocal etc?

I’m a beginner at this stuff so I may be completely wrong

I think they’re copying the vocal channel, chopping it, reversing very short parts and adding reverse reverb as you said. maybe.

sounded like 4 and a half mins of sugarbytes abuse to me.

sounded more like artillery2 though

Tim Exile using finger/artillery

And if you like this stuff you should check artists like the Glitch mob’s EdiT:

Modeselektor & Siriusmo (amazing):

I’m with you on that bobby, it’s amazing how they make such harsh beats sound so soulful.

And the chopping is totally 21st century P-Funk.

This thread has all gone a bit wonk. From French house to Wonk in 5 easy steps

Thanks for the recommendations guys - this is the kind of stuff I love and am always on the lookout for. I hadn’t heard of Siriusmo - I think I might be getting the majority of their stuff.

Someone else on another thread got me into Teenage Bad Girl - another top banana if you’ve not heard them yet…
