Ok i know i bashed Reason a bit and i felt it was a tad unfair, the last time i seriously used this program was Reason 3, i dabbled with 4 a bit but i preferred Ableton. Ive recently been looking into Reason 5 and Record 1.5 and i think that they are both viable contenders in the DAW marketplace. Propellerheads have done well to make a all in one box program and i think a huge benefit of it is that you dont have to worry about buying tons of new synths and plugins and gear because it wont work and what they have in R5 are all really cool little plugins. I also know the swedes are constantly working on their algorithms to improve the quality of the sound you get out of reason and tbh just watch the video below if you need proof lol…
The thing I took away from this video had nothing to do with Reason. It made me realize that I spend too much time wondering about the finished product and not about just getting that main groove. I did think it was funny when he did 3 mins of work (obviously he spent considerable more time than that as he had to make that sax part, etc) and said voila, the track is done. HAHAHH Yeah, on your end. Now it’s time for your engineers to come in and make the track that actually gets put on the radio.

the trick is to spend as much time making the 8 bar or 16 bar groove as you do making the arrangement.
I dont think stromae got engineers in to take his 16 bar loop and make it into a song lol…
Also i question Daniel Kandi, he seems more interested in teling people that he just uses reason apposed to telling people what he does and how he does it…
Also have you ever tried to sync an acapella in reason? Go try it , and just reason no cheating and using record… then tell me Kandi uses it exclusively…
Also the sax part is a sample that he plays… theonly bit he had to do outside of the box was the vocals…

Agreed. I think it’s funny in general how ALL of these videos like this make it seem like it only takes a minute to make a song… The real question is. How long has he been tinkering with Reason in the first place but I digress. He even mentions that when he made the song he had no idea that it was going to be big as he was just messing around.
IMHO I think this song/video just goes to prove what most signed/contracted artists say is true. A project is never finished, you just have to put it out and accept that its “good enough” even if it is only a 16 bar loop with your poetry on it. Roughly put, take chances with your music, don’t wait until it’s perfect. It never will be… The fact that he was able to just take that 16 bar loop and consciously put it out and just run with it without doing what most of us would do and mess with it for the next month until it ends up lost on a hard drive somewhere, forgotten. Separates the artists, composers, and songwriters from the tinkerers. I’m still a tinkerer with big dreams.
But still Reason is ace also that lucky date guy he has some of the fattest electro basses ive ever heard, all done in reason and he releases them in refills and shows how to make them on youtube, what a cool guy
I had reason, it’s cool you can make decent music with it but I think it’s for beginners really. I know it’s what you do with it and not what you have that counts but ask anyone to swap either ,ableton, logic or cubase with reason? It’s not gonna happen.
But anyone thinking of dabbling in music production should get reason

i used to think the same thing until I heard what analogue sounds like.
but 2 your point… reason def does some reallly cool stuff for electro bass lines.
