Idea: Ableton Live Set Marketplace

Hello there

Since a couple of days I have an idea in mind. I think about a new kind of marketplace where musicians buy and sell ableton live sets. I actually start to like this idea more and more since I’m interestend in (and looking for) ableton sets with a mastering presets chain. Ableton itself offers some sets of artists on the website (very cool that they are free, tough no mastering preset!). I would also like to get tracks of artist for my own remixes/edits e.g. Remix Packs. Why downloading the samples when you could have a fix ableton set to start?

What do you think about this idea?

Would you sell? e.g. mastering set, I’m your first customer

Any other idea?

I’m a webdev geek so I’d be able to create such a marketplace. If you don’t like my little market research, do it. I just want to push things forward and look for new ways for exchange (free or paid). However, I like the idea of an open web 2.0 like ableton live set marketplace.

Thanks for your feedback.

i think its a good idea, im not sure how it would be put together

I think it would be like:

  • You have the opportunity to create “ableton live products” e.g. a tutorial, arrangement, mastering chain, “how to sound like” within the system. You can define a price, describe what the customer will get, add mp3 and pictures if needed and adding a youtube clip for the pros.

  • Sellers will then have an overview about the orders.

  • Buyers will have an overview about the shopping the’ve done and of course a download link. Buyers can rate an write a review about the products so they can add feedback and value for upcoming customers.

Payments will be done with paypal. So sellers an buyers need paypal in order to work.

    Just that, very simple.

    What do you think?

that sounds good but i wouldnt be the person creating the content , still learning a lot myself

you mentioned in the OP that you wanted a mastering preset, why?

well with MAX for live with version 8 u can design your own plugins and presets etc. Also for registered users they have forum where u can share your sets and some retailers offer the associated file from live for the tracks after being warped. If u want to create a place to have this all in 1 location then I can see what u saying but for the most part u can get the MAX designed plugins thru live and buy tracks withe proper files from other sites.

yes i am aware of this. i have Max for Live and also ableton 8 but i’m still unsure as to why anyone would want a mastering preset, surely every track you make will be different so would need different mastering settings.

Very true that I also downloaded some sets from Ableton from some industry names expecting to find some gems and was pretty much shocked to find that most hadn’t even used any filters on their tracks.

Some of them still sounded good but I suspect all tricks of the trade were carefully removed prior to upload.

As for your idea I am really not sure.

I’m actually looking for a set which shows me some different mastering chains. Of course you have to finetune every single track. But I’m actually lacking the mastering basics and different types of mastering chains which give me different sound.

So, it would be cool to take let’s say 3 different presets and pay around with them. And if there is a tutorial which explains how to use this 3 chains in detail. This would just be a great tool!

btw. the marketplace is already alive as beta site!

You can visit www.abletonmarketplace.com! It’s not open yet, but you can sign the newsletter to get notified when we launch. If you want to betatest just give me a pm.

Thanks!!!

And thanks for telling others. We are looking for content soon.

All the best
