If you could ask a professional patch maker a question

What would it be?

Just out of curiosity like :Whistling:

why do you keep copying my sounds ?

how do you make a patch?

in all seriousness though i would ask

how do you stay ahead of the game to keep your patches sounding fresh and upto date?

Good one.

Basically I am interviewing some of the patch makers from Reason for an upcoming feature. So good chance to get some tips from the pros!

How usable are you patches in reality?

Most of the time its too much filler & not enough Killer.

The patch library is more of a Trailer for the synths possibilities -  than a toolkit.

Also - Why do they not release a seperate .pdf with how & why sounds are put together. End up spending $$$ on something & theres **** all Education available.

Wheres the ****ing responsibility Man!! :hehe:

I much prefer the sound packs where they give you instruments and kits. Loopmasters are pretty good at that. Especially if they have midi parts too. Much more possibility for personalization.

What type of adhesive would you recommend to keep the patch on secure and watertight?

Helpful as always guys!

I once had a 5 metres, 10 metres and 25 metres swimming badge on my speedos. I wanted to add more patches but I couldn’t find room. What would you recommend I use to put my patches on instead of my speedos?

What makes a good patch ?

softsynth or hardware ?

soft synth or hardware ?[/quote]

hey John u know that there is artist like Gary Numan are stepping in to the Softsynth due that the flexibility of use.

but i am sure u will find lots of purist that believe still that hardware does have a character.

i am sure u will get similar answer from different Artists.

I would like to see a poll with your questions where famous artist discuss about it .

Why don’t you make synths??

you know what always makes me laugh about this sort of thing is that its always the people who have know synths almost all of their lives, either helped build synths or extremely well recognized synth programmers that claim Software synths are as good or capable of the same results as hardware.

while there are Dj/producer that spew out crap about needing hardware or not needing hardware who do you think the masses will follow.

In my honest opinion hardware is nice, its nice to play with, very inspiring and cool to look at but the only really major difference with a studio full of hardware is there’s no need to turn on the heating in the cold winter mornings.

Less to dust also…

And lets face it - those little ladies resent those chores!  :hehe:

Anything that gives them more time to raise the kids & cook meals etc…

You have to be considerate after all.

Do you think that you can create interesting sounds without using effects or distortion, or do you create everything through modulation and routing without effects?

So true for so many things. Like the Vinyl Vs Digital argument or mp3 over Wav.

You’ll find many pro’s using any combination of the above, but a whole bunch of amateurs in the forums swearing blind that Wav/Vinyl is the only way etc.

I think one of the best sections i ever read was the interview with Manuel Schleis when CM or FM asked which hardware was used to make the samples and he replied "all of our samples are made using software, even the programmed sounds. “you get the same results with software its just a lot quicker”

Manuel Schleis for those that don’t know is the producer behind the vengeance series and probably one of the most well respected synth programmers or our generation his sound sets and samples have been some of the most popular of the last 5 years.

Big name dj’s making money using ableton, traktor and CD’s while some random no one’s ever heard of is running around shouting “real dj’s use vinyl”
