Importing MIDI

Hey all,

I am in Ableton looking to import a midi of a song to get the notes/chords and when I do load the midi all of the parts show up but nothing when it comes to chords etc. Is there a way to do this? I am referring to how FL Studio has it where you can import a MIDI in and it has everything laid out. I am just looking to see if there is an easy way to do this rather than just manually inputting the notes shown by FL into Ableton.

Cheers!

you need to explain more… all the parts are there but not the chords, is not enough information to help?

My initial answer would be if there are no chords then they weren’t included in the original midi file.

I’ve had some success dragging midi files into Live, but also found some open and some don’t. I then drag an instrument to each track. But it’s at this point that I get stuck trying to work out what should be a drum track/sound and what should be bass, synth etc. When I open the midi file it often opens 20 or so midi tracks. Does anyone know how to easily tell what instrument/sound each midi track should be?
