Hi guys. I’ve been watching a few video’s by Dave Pensado (Check them out they are awesome) and in a few of them he talks about reverb. Although it’s not massively in depth, it’s straight to the point of what you really need to know. How early reflections place the sound source and late reflections allow your ear to calculate the size of the room (which a lot of people already know) but I can’t remember watching one of the tutorials and being shown any of that, it’s talked about but, not really shown in any great depth (I might have missed something though) However that video really opened my eyes when I saw him make a vocal sound wet, and in my face and it just sounded awesome. I got introduced to dance music through trance, so whenever i load up Aether on a vocal, I just make it sound big and trancey and in isolation, that can sound great, but in a mix it sounds turd. An in depth tutorial on how to place a vocal into a mix would be great. I think most producers these days are using pretty much early reflections only, with pre delay and maybe a tiny bit of the late reflections, it’s modern and it sounds good and I would love to know how to do it properly and the theory behind it. I can remember watching the whole of the “Reverb Explained” video’s and that explains what reverb is, but not really how you can use it and how TO use it. Not that I can remember anyway. Just an Idea though.
Here’s the video. It’s a couple of minutes in when he does his Into the lair section.
