In the studio with audiojack (budget studio)

found this on youtube today and thought i’d share it its great to see that top producers dont always have state of the art studio’s lol…

anyone who’s heard of audiojacks “robot” track and there remix of “erotic discourse” will love this insight into how they work it is also worth worth watching anyway it really does prove the saying “rock what you’ve got”

Finishes a track in 4 hours, my god!

my guess is that if you keep things simple and know your tools then you’ll get through projects a hell of a lot quicker because you know your tools

I have a hard time believing that someone finishes a track from start to finish in 4 hours.

My problem isn’t the tools but knowing i need ‘something else’ to add to the track, but just can’t find or think of what it is that I need.

In fact right now i’m working on 3 tracks and 2 of them i’m really stuck for that ‘something else’. It’s real mental block man, frustrating as hell.

3 tracks at the same time is a lot of info for anyones brain to deal with man especially if their all different flavours whenever this happens to me i end up with a fried brain, so i just keep to one at a time nowadays

Even then i get in a tizz  :)

i’ve been in the studio with guys that finish tracks in this time.

@Jon, and release them? Are they good?

I finished a track in 10mins once! Mind you it was crap!

i’m exactly the same i get to a certain point then my mind goes blank…

i once spoke to a big producer from the early nineties after i gig and he told me he made his biggest track mucking around when they had two hours spare studio time left even though it was not my cup of tea it was a good record and was a massive tune for him so maybe its not unheard of for a pro to nail a track in hours

it sounded great, haven’t got a clue if it got released.

but look at it like this. if you go into a studio with an idea, you know what sounds you want and you know how you want the structure. basically you already have the track written in your head, its then only gonna take you maybe 1-2 hours to make it.

i think there are quite a few guys that work like this and most probably get the track down with in an hour or two, maybe leave it for a day come back and do the edits corrections and mix it down.

Now that’s pro. I can probably understand where that comes from though, like i’ve been DJing for 8 years and over 6 years professionally so it all comes second nature that i dont really have to think about it anymore. That same principle must be the same in production, having those years of knowledge and skills under your belt. You can probably do everything without even really having to think about it???

Just my theory? I could be completely wrong however.

i’ve just been watching a computer music producer master class with chris lake and the song featured in the vid he said only took him half a day so thats another pro saying it can be done

i think when your a pro things are second nature and you dont need to think you know what to do to get the sound you want which means your time is much much more productive for instance things i used to spend hours doing and making my head hurt i can now do in minutes with a little experience
