Industrial Techno Tutorial

Hey guys, i’ve been searching allover the web for both tutorials and drum kits and I can’t seem to find any, the sound i’m aiming for is Industrial Techno, some notable artists are (Oliver Huntemann, Xenia Beliayeva & Gesaffelstein) what I really need to know about is the low end basically, how to program such bass sounds & how to make those kickdrums

Xenia Beliayeva - Analog Effekt - YouTube

those guys make some mind blowing bass lines in poly-rhythm with huge kick drums, it just sounds insane (check the video above for reference)

thanks in advance

Hi Man,

Possibly one of the reasons why possibly you have found it difficult to get info on this sound is that it is not Industrial Techno. Its Minimal Electro Techno / Little bit of Prog House & Trance in there too.

If you refine your searching to more Electro House based stuff… and maybe restrain the sounds, to get that slick tight grooves - then you will be 1/2 way there.

They use a lot of analog sounds… so you couldnt go wrong with a Moog type synth. Arturia do one that is very good - The Moog V.

Drum sounds are Minimaly, Electro-y. They probably use synthetic percussion sounds, rather than 808/909’s per-se. Drum synths such as Microtonic have some really wicked synthdrum sounds in them… which you can pitch, change & mutate on the fly.

Failing that… if you have a scan through some genre specific sample packs on S2S or Loopmasters, you’ll get some ideas of what you should go for.

Thanks for your reply dude, I totally agree about the sounds, already experimenting with some of those sounds, but about the fusion I think it’s only a rhythmical & structural fusion (use) of those sub-genres so search-wise I won’t go anywhere with it because these guys work under the Techno tags everywhere, maybe Gesaffelstein uses a couple of Trash Electro & Alternative Dance sounds but it’s basically Techno, that’s the beauty of their sounds it’s like no other, and that’s exactly where i’m aiming hopefully

Switch on your triplet grid & have fun man - Job done.

I’m being serious btw…

Yeah I know man it definitely comes in handy, I like using it as fillers in cuts, never actually tried to use it on a main pattern (verse, breakdown…etc)

But a Industrial Techno Tutorial would be nice - lol

Buy the vengence sample packs, they have alot of different drum sounds
