What do you all do when you need some?
Got the intro bass, transitions etc done and sounding ace, braking into powerful strings which will give me bags of trancepiration for the main meldoy but I need an intro meldoy to hint at the key and the feeling the strings are giving while holding and building the tension.... working in B minor.
Any ideas? I know a lot of geners will have common melodys that are used, anyone know of a webage where one might find info on that?
Why use something common? I say take your string sounds, shorten them to make them plucky and fill them out through automation up to the actual string part… Then just muck about with that… Common… isn’t that hip hop?
Go for a bike ride…
Yeah Howies on the nail there, do something non music related, I personally like online gaming, takes my head completely away from music.
You could also try flicking through loops, samples and sounds in your samples folder, sometimes you hear stuff that gives you ideas.

Just don’t use the loops. Just get ideas.
If it works it works, but yeah the problem with loops is they can have the wrong swing / groove to the rest of your track. However if you’re liking parts of the loop, just cut it up and take the bits you like… make it your own

you can change the swing of a loop with out having to cut it up, i think howard was hinting more at the fact, if you use loops theres more chance of sounding like someone else or like you’ve just build a track out of a sample pack.

Bingo!
But no Roben, you can take your loop, quantize the loop so that it negates the swing, and then add your own swing to it. So it doesn’t matter what kind of swing is on any loop in a sample pack.
Yeah I know guys?
That wasn’t what I was saying though, it’s easy to drag and drop your groove from the groove pool and place it into your midi or audio.
I was more implying it’s better really to make the loop your own, personally for this i prefer to ‘slice to new midi track’ and edit from there.
u know what I think the issue is in my case, the basses and everything else going on is taking up all the room so when I’m putting synths over, it just isnt geling, and I’m also no longer happy with the key… wow I’ve spent so much time on this one! Time for a rethink, key change to G minor and I’m doing this tonal center thing around C#, happier with that. keeping the same midi for the basses but I’ve gotta tone them down to get what I’m looking for, so need more synth work and sounds that will gel better to get the synth lead sound I want! Work, learn, work, learn somemore, rework… now we’ll what happens next! I’m expecting good things when I get this one done! or I’ll be a very sad man!
