Hi
Basically my laptop has been playing up and my mate reckons it may be the hard drive(pxe e61 error on start up) so he said install and run windows on my external hard drive and see if it still plays up, anyone no how I would do this
Cheers
I think it depends on your bios as to weather you can boot from usb or not.
USB2 can be pretty slow too so i wouldt expect great results.
a 2.5 inch 300gb 7200rpm drive partitioned would be a better solution.
Hey Phil thank for the response, I have a lacie 1tb 7200rpm external HDD would this be ok to use, another guy on a different forum said doin this would be pointless, but seems logical to me?
Like Phil said, running an OS from a USB hard drive will be **** slow. If the drive in the machine is knackered, replace it.
All you are going to prove if you run the OS off an external drive is that you have a problem with the internal one, and you already know that. If you are lucky you will get it to boot, but it won’t be usable.
Yeah that’s a good point lol cheers people!
