has anybody had any success using a synth on their iOS device (in my case, ipad) as a synth through ableton or some other DAW? The DAWs on iOS are, well, not terribly useful (however they are fun) but some of the synths are really cool, especially animoog. Animoog has both MIDI in and MIDI out and I am envisioning some interesting ways to patch that sound into ableton and automate with ableton as well
has anybody had done anything with this yet?

i used animoog and tried playing midi through my network but for me the latency was too slow to work with. i do however love animoog so i play animoog via the ipad and take audio out jack into my inputs and record in ableton.
btw, i tried touchable via the network and i found that was pretty cool for transport control, drum pads, etc. for some reason the latency didn’t bother me there. haven’t been using touchable lately however as my apc40 is quite convenient.
my ipad hasn’t been used for awhile tho animoog is very cool…
Yeah have used Animoog over WiFi MIDI in Ableton\External Instrument combo…
Works pretty well, no issues with latency here…
Korg have also released a port of the MS20… IMO not quite as good as Animoog, but is still useful for sound creation…
Yamaha have released TNR-1… but not that useful for me…
O and of course, you could go old skool with ReBirth
