Is groove/nested structure applicable for certain genres?

Is it applicable for trance, house, DnB, Electro House? Because I have seen a view videos here where phil makes the kicks and such slightly off beat but others where they are entirely quantized, how do I know when it applies? And also most trance seems to have very linear repetitive drums, is that correct?

thanks

I think some genres/songs do better off with the rhythm rigid, but others are better for making it funky and offbeat. For example I think most house music goes well with a swing, but maybe stuff like trance and techno sound better with none, like you said. I dunno, there’s no rules really so just experiment and see which sounds better for you.

ok thanks, i presumed as much, but it seems like a lot of house lately is rigid as well so i guess your right about it just being situational, thx again
