Is Multiband Compressors nessesary for mastering?

what i been reading lately is that Multiband compressor is not necessary as long as u have a good mix .

so what u guys think ?

I would have thought that most mastering house would use one.

I personally dont see the point in developing mastering skills.

Focus on getting your mix spot on and the record labels will take care of mastering.

When i do the masters for my mates and myself for clubs i use a multi compressor. A waves one aswell as a limiter and a compressor. It’s all stuff i picked up over time though without a good mix down its pointless

I agree and don’t agree

Sure focus on a great mix - but I’m doing a promo pack for DJs currently and though I am no mastering expert by a long long shot I have been tinkering with a MB compressor and limiter to boost my tunes

At least this way a label can hear what it may sound like when they send it to their mastering houses

But your right in that I am not going to spend too much time on it

but having a compressor or limiter on the master on the master bus will colour the mixdown

take it off and it will affect it. thats what happened to me and i had to redo the whole mixdown

if you have the mixdown sounding goo you shouldnt need to do anything to the master out until a pro does it like

I am only putting the plugs on the master last thing and if sending to labels I would probably send a bear copy as well
