Sorry for spamming the forum with stupid questions.
But I recently switched to Ableton from Logic and I’m trying to figure out how I apply or save the kicks that I have made from the tutorial “Kick *** Kicks”. I’ve completed the whole tutorial and this is truly an amazing way to create your own kicks! Thanks alot for that Sonic Academy.
But when I’m done and I’ve decided what kick I want, then what? how do I save them down to an audiofile?
Thanks alot for these amazing tutorials once again! Learned alot under a really short period of time. Keep them coming! Looking forward to new ones as well.
Do a midi file on the track… Have the kicks playing…
then do the resample option on the input of an audio track… arm & hit record.
The audio of the kick will be recorded. You can then chop it & save it.
I’m fully moved over from logic to live now too… know what its like man!
What I dont understand is, why would anyone drop logic for ableton? I mean I LOVE ableton its like my african adopted baby but seriously Logic used to be the dogs *****, or have they really fked it in the latest version? Im out of the loop lol…
Dont tell him - its a secret
oh well, I see that as a “no , don’t switch to Ableton, Logic is better!”, or should I?
the DAW is only a preference as far as I know, nothing that really differs them that much…
well ok, there are loads of things, but both are capable in doing the same things in different ways. Is there any reason I should stay for Logic btw? interesting
Thanks.
Lol seriously tell meeeeeee, I feel a disturbance in the force lol. I mean pretty much all the top dawgs use logic whats going on? If Ableton is better then fair enough… Please please please for the love of god dnt tell me your going to live because SA does its tutorials in live. Id sell a kidney for a mac g5 and logic…

hehe no no, you’re completely wrong. I mean, look around, Avicii, Afrojack, and loads of other “top producers” that counts as famous within the house genre are still using Fruity Loops.
There are a others, such as Deadmau5, Johan Wedel, Thomas Gold, etc that uses Ableton Live
and others such as Axwell, Alesso, Ingrosso, Fedde Le Grand and others using Logic.
It’s only a personal perference tbh.
Also I tend to like Ableton more for it’s workflow, it’s shortcuts and keycommands, it’s built in effects and instruments and the remix tools that are built in, as well as it’s not crashing the damn whole time like Logic. And also, my hardware drum maschine and synth are so easy to set up and run, as in Logic it is really hard and annoying
but if you have anything to say against it, I would more than appreciate to get it explained why I shouldn’t move over to Ableton from Logic
thanks.
Well I cant comment too much as I also use Ableton lol ive just never heard of anyone moving from logic to something else, in fact ive never really heard anything that bad about logic apart from a few little bugs and niggles you get when the new version comes out…

I haven’t moved from Logic yet, but I tend to enjoy Ableton more as it suits me better anyone else have any suggestion here?
Create an Audio Track arm it to resample and hit record, then cut the kick or kicks and put it in a Drum rack and save it as a drum Kit Or if you have multiple samples drag them into a sampler, click on where it saids Zone then go to selector right click on the blue line and distribute ranges properly i think you can fit 127 samples in there and then save that and you can later use it as a drum cell and drag it into a Drum rack and then make it easier to search for a kick as you can just go to the zone editor and map the sample select ruler and go through your kicks

This is really awsome! Now I can choose and customize my own kicks! That is so cool.
Is there any similar function in Logic? would be nice to know since I’m still using Logic alot. Thanks!
Im pretty sure you can do it with the ex24 but you’re sort off limited
Do some research on Ultrabeat Man - its a big sampler & drum synth.
You can synthesise kicks in it - so its the best of both worlds if you wanna combine a sample with a big low - or noise etc… Lots of mod options too.
Is got like 24/25 channels - each with a sampler / Noise Osc & a Wave Osc.
Very powerful.
I used to be in Logic also, but after a week of using Ableton, I couldnt go back. Literally the workflow is 10x faster. Anyone in here using Xfer’s Nerve? Great plugin for drum sequencing, it also has the load and scroll option, so you can just browse your libraries while it plays back. GOLD, JERRY, GOLD!

BTW, the reason a lot of people struggle with Logic is that the compositional ‘helping’ tools on logic are poor in comparison to Ableton. You have to fill the space left to right and that’s intimidating for many. Ableton offers tools that help you cheat if you are not a musician (scale, chord etc) Also the session view takes away the intimidating feeling of filling in the space from the beginning to the end of the tune. If someone makes a great track on Logic they are more skilled usually in programming or performing music and I actually have more respect for them. Many Ableton users are cheaters - using short looped elements and re-arranging them or using the MIDI devices. Stand by for this to change in Logic also - the next one will be very dumbed down and you’ll be able to cheat a lot, much like garageband for iPad. The future is not looking good - EVERYONE will be able to make competent music. This means more product in the digital stores to compete with. How are YOU going to stand out???
It takes twice as long to do almost everything in logic. It used to be far more supirior than it is now in relation to the other DAWs. I think it still feeds off its past acomplishments.
Abletons big major flaw is the arrange page… Logics on is nicer but Cubase one is defo the best IMO.
