Lack of insiration!

feeling unhappy with the results of my last track i started to do some reflexion and started to critize myself what is the next step i have to take ,in order to make the beat sound really good.  first i think i have to get my ispiration in paper. pretty much might mean that i have to write when i think about a beat before going to my DAW. i notice also that weak and boring grooves are made when you dont know what is the direction u  are taking. sometimes bashin your keyboards to see what come out sounds too forced.

just wanted to share what i tought today

i know how you feel…

for me lately its not the beats thats bothering me its my mixing…no matter how hard i try to mix my tracks down lately its still not working the way i want…

as for your beats problem try finding some good loops you like, chop them up and rearranging them, then extract the groove and use your own drum hits…

i donno if that helps ya out but it works for me sometimes.

thanks brother. i will take that in consideration in the future

Inspiration can be a c*nt sometimes, it happens to literally EVERYONE, even the big well known producers, so don’t worry.

If you find that nothing is happening, try listening to some tracks in the style that you like, sometimes that can spur inspiration.

Otherwise, try doing something completely NON MUSIC RELATED, like a computer game, gym or something, you’ll be amazed at how inspiration can just come at the craziest of times.

i need lots of cardio too heheeh.

^^^ Yeah defo, blood and oxygen to the brain is a winner for getting it all active and fresh thinking.

I always feel so buzzed when i get in from the gym, only problem is because i work out late i get home and can’t work on music due to housemate being in bed! lol

Ah well

inspiration is not my problem my problem is that i dont have the knowledge to actually implement my ideas

i have a idea fire up ableton and try for a couple of hours to achieve whatever my idea was then fail and lose all inspiration and all my drive at the same time

I am with Chris on this one - I think maybe I am trying too hard to find a sound or certain feel and then get frustrated

YEP…thats a pretty big issue with me to…

or

i have this sound in my head that i feel will make for a great track…so i bust my balls for hours trying to get to it, but when i finally get close enough the sound has become soooooo repetitive in my head it loses all its appeal and just sounds boring, and almost frustrates me to listen to it… so its saved and popped into a folder to gather dust with god knows how many other great ideas that never worked out.

I have the same problem… not with a specific sound but with the entire loop !

I do a basic beat which sound nice… i have a deep bass… i have a nice lead sound… and i know i should continue to add tracks and layers until the inspiration vanish… but instead of this, i just sit and listen to my loop again and again, thinking about how it could burn the dancefloor on the next liveact…

… and after a while, the loop starts to be less attractive… it’s normal. Our nature is such as we lose interest very quickly in what we have in abundance…

I should press the “stop” button everytime i don’t need to listen to the loop… but it’s not that easy ! :hehe:
