I have a serious problem with layering sounds in my songs. I quickly get fixated on one sound and have trouble adding complimentary sounds to it…
My buddy Caleb Shomo recently released a new song and to be honest he KILLED it…
When I mean layering sounds I would probably say the 2:40 to 3:30 mark in the video there just seems to be so much organized chaos going on…
Am I just crazy or is there something I can look into to help me with this
in that section you pointed out i noticed i tight integration of the rhythmical patterns… although there are different elements going on they all follow the same pattern which really helps them gel.
get one pattern and make sure all your start and end points of your sounds are matching up… this will give that “tightness” with multiple layers.
So are you saying most of the notes are hitting on similar beats? Or that they vary within the bar but start and end on the same beat?
Your post makes me think back to another post you had about Hardwell and how his songs have multiple layers with the bass, pad, lead all hitting the same note…Is this what your saying?
I’m confused lol Are there any tutorials that might give me an example?
yeah thats it all the sounds are hitting on the same beat… although some sounds arnt playing every beat in the pattern.
there are no sound playing anything outside the overall pattern.
Ahhh makes perfect sense now thanks phil
One more question phil would the bass line normally be the sound to carry the overall pattern in the song?
Id depends on the type of track but for complextro/electro the bass is generally the main rhythmical element.
Cool appreciate it phil
