RMS compresses the root mean square, or average volume levelbr
Peak uses the loudest peak (usually the transient of the drum)br
Opto tends to use peak but offers a smoother, more subtle compression type (so it is believed!)br

All of these things relate to the threshold and how the compression is applied to sounds above the threshold.br

I usually use peak when side-chaining from the kick, although sometimes I will try RMS depending what I am trying to achieve./PPA very important point is that is you are going to use a very fast attack you should be aware that the FF2 compressor can cause clicks, if it does that and you want that fast attack you need to change to the FF1 compressor.
