Looking for help finding a good 88-key MIDI controller keyboard

Hi all,

I’ve been trying to research MIDI controller keyboards and am coming up a bit unsure. I’m using Live 8 and know I’d like to aim for the following:

  • An 88-key model.
  • Weighted action would be nice. I’m not a piano player however I intend to at least try and learn some basics, and I’ve read a lot about flimsy feeling keys on many units.
  • My genre of focus for now is goa/psy/ambient trance. I’d like to keep that in mind for any auxiliarly sounds the unit may come with.
  • Budget is flexible within reason and will depend on the unit’s features, but for now let’s say ~$500.
  • USB out would be a huge bonus. I run my computer tower from a small server closet next to my office/studio, so getting USB to the rig would be easier than mini-MIDI.

I’d obviously like to avoid overspending as much as possible, however, I do want a unit that will last through my stages of learning and development that won’t have to be necessarily replaced. (Which is another reason I’d want an 88-key model.)

Many thanks for any input to point me in the right direction.

if i was buying a new controller today it would be the 25 or 49 version of this
