Finding inspiration in my eyes is a personal thing, listen to differnt types of music, go on YT, soundcloud and listen to random stuff. Experoment with you DAW of choice and see what happens
Read some blogs or other forums on techniques, since you are into techno go check our thread here http://forums.sonicacademy.com/Topic31980-8-1.aspx
After watching the riots in London yesterday I got inspired to do a heavy techno track
Hope thats given you a few ideas
Go to a club with a really good DJ.
How to stay inspired
In the end, it’s down to you to make sure that place yourself in a state of mind that helps you to remain ready for inspiration to strike. In the meantime, here are some ideas to keep you in a creative state of mind:
* Go to gigs: Nothing inspires musicians more than watching other in-spired musicians playing inspired music. Make a point of watching a live show at least once a week from here on; more often if you can. We’re living in a boom period for live music, so take advantage of this and go and watch some bands.
* Listen to the radio: I know that a lot of radio stations play safe, predictable music all day long, but there’s still a lot to be learnt from these artists. Bare in mind that if you’re intending to be a songwriter for hire, you’re songs will need to be played on these radio stations. It might be best to familiarise yourself with their output now.
* Talk to people: Anyone. It can be at a bus stop, at work, in a taxi or a police station. You never know, you might learn something, and if you don’t you still be a happier person for trying!
* Write what you know: To be an effective lyricist, you need to be able to combine your imagination with a sound knowledge of the subject matter your tackling. That’s why so many writers say that they only write about what they’ve experienced themselves. Take a little time each to explore your own memories; there will surely be some rich material for songs in your own brain.
* Go on holiday: Refresh your creative spirit.
* Play in a different style: Try playing in an unfamiliar genre at least once a week. This will hopefully interest you in styles you’re not normally acquainted with, and keep your mind open too.
* Become a poet: Think of a fresh way to describe what you’re doing or how you’re feeling as you go about your day. Don’t be shy, you can be as pretentious as you like. Don’t forget to keep your notebook with you at all times.
* Listen to the greats: If you’re aiming to make excellent music then surround yourself with excellent music. Treat yourself to a classic album as often as you can afford it. Ask friends and family to recommend you their favourites. Live with these albums one week per album, and write down what you like about each one at the end of that week.
* Stop listening to music: You can have too much music in your life, after a while you’ll find that listening to music all day leaves you bored and nothing moves you. Have a break for a couple of days, weeks or even months. Recharge your ears!
Yah Inspiration comes from external & internal sources. all howie's points were on the money.
Thx guys, good tips. Although, here in my country, almost all the djs are posers, only a few of them are actually producers and they aren’t that good either (for instance, the top national djs, don’t even producer, they just are within a loop of people who organize events). I’ve lost a lot of respect to my local music scene. Band wise, it’s kinda the same, ****ty bands produced to be a commercial hit amongst kids or ****ty bands by stoners who really suck at playing. I guess this has some of effect in my inspiration… sigh…
