Just a quick question which I have been a little confused about lately, I noticed in the dutch house tutorial Phil didn’t cut any of the low out of the chords or the bass. So I guess my question is what frequencies range if you needed to low cut your bass and chords would be a rough range for each, I always thought the chords would have to be low cut so they didn’t interfere with the bass.
Any way anyone much appreciate anyone that can get me sorted on this topic.
Thanks
Personally I don’t cut anything from my kicks, I always shape my bass around the kick.
Bass I always start at the fundamental frequency of the bass note, (ie 49hz for G) and roll up (use your ears etc.), Energy below the fundamental on the bass is usually wasted in my experience.
I’ve gone as high as 95hz w/ a 24 db filter I believe in one of my tracks with the bass filtering.
I would think this at least applies to the other elements besides the kick in the track. A good rule of thumb is to keep cutting until it changes the character of the sound (or use a visual eq like Pro - Q to easily see the useless **** you are cutting out). This ends up being like the bass cuts because we’ll go at least up to the fundamental.
On my master I roll off at 32 hz with the steepest filter I have access to but a 24 db would probably work too.
Thanks for the reply really helps me out
Pretty sure there is some heavy low cut on the chords in the later mixing videos.
Ok then phil I must not have seen it, internet loads the SA videos really slow sometimes so hard to get through a whole video, not sure why they load so slow cause the videos on youtube load instantly.
