I looked into one not that long ago when I was having problems with traktor. I know your a mac user but I couldn’t justify the spec for the cost tbh and just use a better pc in the end. Problem solved
ICN (17/09/2011)
Just checked out the RX there man - Brilliant! Gunshots & Door slams!
My Uncle used to have an Akai sampler that had dogs barking / breaking glass etc… Great fun! LOL
What are the sounds like - are they Roland-y?
I wouldn’t say they are like Roland there just different but have their own charm and you’ll recognise them. The toms are really heavy. The kick is cool but would probably need layering bit has cool sound. The sounds in there normal state are probably more realistic but you can edit them beyond recognition. The editing is really cool with this thing and you can add different sounds with waveform cartridges, and I have one! :w00t: its Lofi though when you pitch stuff down, really grainy.
It’s either pay hundreds/thousands for drum machines that have been used on every record or try something different I’m gonna get the ry30 next
Tbh ICN your better off saving up a bit longer so you can get the pro. Theres no point in buying something cheap just simply cos ure mind is telling you that you have to have one NOW!!! You will probably be cheaper off in the long run if your patient and buy the highest spec one you can afford at that point.

I suggest the latest macbook pro, I think if you go direct to Apple you can get one which you pay off in installments if you really have to get hold of one quick. Give the bankers more stuff to worry about
I agree. I’d hang on if I was you and save for a pro if you need a laptop, but if you don’t need to portablility your money would be better spent on an imac. My imac is just over 4 years old now and has the same spec. That cost me £1100 at the time. Expensive compared to a PC but I’d like to see a 4 year old pc run as well as that does. Never had any trouble/hassle with it and well worth the money. It runs Ableton no problem, but I must admit I want an upgrade, I don’t really need it to be fair. I just want that 27" beast
Anyway, my point is, invest the money a bit and it will last the time. That laptop is probably about 4 years old looking at the spec and in 4 years time it will be 8 years old and probably crap spec wise.
Tbh in the music world there is too much settling for cheap alternatives and rush buying. Trust me you will regret it in the long run. A producer that saves his money and buys the best is a happy producer. One that has to have everything RIGHT NOW is a producer that in the long run will spend twice as much as the happy producer.
