yea they are great!! i’m moving from a home studio setup to a real/rehersal studio setup so i’m sparing no expensive on all my equipment.
a friend of mine who is a sound engineer said make sure you spend the most money on monitors.
buying them took months of research and reading many reviews plus listnening to as many monitors as i could find. was going back and forth with the Genelec 8040A but I wanted an 8’ woofer instead of the 6.5 plus the Genelecs are ridiculously overpriced.
the genelecs are defo not as good for edm.
I found the mids too in your face.
might upgrade to the MK2s myself
1)How do you compare Mackie HR824Mk2 (8’') to:
Event 20/20 BAS
Focal CMS50
Sonodyne SM100
Dynaudio BM5AMK2
2) Why did you go for hr824 instead of mackie HR624mk2 (6")?
:smooooth:

nice that you said that, guy at local music store is telling me a storys about how “legendary” genelecs are for edm, because Swedish House Maffia use them in studio.
actually that users review was for the HR624mk2
I went with the HR824Mk2 and not the HR624Mk2 because i wanted a bigger monitor and i liked how the bass and the kick sounded fuller and thicker… as it should.
very true when the reviewer said to bring some tunes you like and listen to it on some monitors you’re interested in.
wasn’t able to listen to the monitors you listed except for the dynaudio which sounded good if i remember correctly.

The Mau5 does too (8050As I think).
I’m thinking hs80’s but will need to check them out. Anyone had experience with them?

I have recently purchased new monitors and I have tested the Focal CMS65, Mackie HR624 Mk2, KRK VXT6 and VXT8, Digidesign RM1 from PMC, and Yamaha HS80M.
I rate them like this:
- Digidesign RM1 (the best: very pleasant, balanced hi, mid and low, very accurate, good stereo image, and also good when listening at low volumes. They also have some x-factor that I can’t put my finger on… I wish I could afford the RM2’s
- Focal CMS65. I found these to be very good and unhyped. I’m not sure they are quite as good for making mix decisions and that is why I went with the Digidesign RM1’s
- KRK VXT 6 (the VXT8 are too big for my room). The are pretty nice to work with, but I feel that midrange is dull and difficult to judge on these. IMO a class below the Focals and the PMC/Digidesign.
- Mackie HR624 MK2. I felt that the treble was a little bit too piercing on these
- Yamaha HS80M.
I think they were all pretty good monitors, but for my purpose and preferences the PMC made Digidesign and Focals really stood out.
