So I find a track I like… I want the vocal part off it…
How do I do it, without completely ruining the acapella?
Is there a tech tip I have missed that could help me?
Can it be done in Live 8?
What programs would be useful to do this as well?
Thank you for any help.

There are a few techniques to create a DIY acapella from an original track, but you always hear it.
Google for it.
One of the techniques is to phase everything out by using the identical instrumental version along with the original.
I have looked at a few videos. And the best method I could find was a combination of using M/S EQ Filter with some multi band compression on it. However even that seems to take away alot of the body of the vocal, and leaves any instrument that appears in the same frequency as the vocal intact as well.
Is there anyway I can improve on this still, or is that the best I will be able to do?
The best way is to get the acapella from the artist or label itself although that might be a little tricky depending on the track itself. Some sites have acapellas for many songs so you could also try searching there.
I’ve tried taking vocals from original tracks, but I’ve never been satisfied with the result.
I’ve naively tried this a few times and it always ended in tears! The closest I got was the old phase cancellation technique, but finding identical vocal and instrumental mixes is almost as hard as finding an actual acapella, not worth the hassle really. You could always break out the auto tune and sing yourself!
good luck!br

like the crew said…nothing ever sounds like the raw acapella…there are some very helpful videos out there, but its more science than creativity…in my opinion. ive searched the web high and low…even bought a program or 2, but nothing got it to that raw…studio acapellabr
