Making Kicks and Snares with Massive

I am currently doing a little project of using my favourite Synths exclusively to create tracks (at the moment its Massive (my first try at this)) and one thing I found is I do not know how to make a Kick/Snare Drum type sound on these Synths…

A track is gonna sound kinda dull without these two very important elements, I could just amp up the Bass at some segments to emulate a Kick Drum but it just wont feel right without one… And I cant see how I would emulate a Snare Drum…

Does anyone know how to make one? If I cant I am just gonna have to make an exception for the Drums and revert to good old Vengeance stuff (what beautiful bassdrums they have!) or leave them out entirely…

NOTE this is not just my first project at this stuff but my first true project ever so I am still a noob… A very big one (only 8 weeks in with this stuff)…

Anyways, any help will be greatly appreciated and I am sure it will help others who want to create a synthy style Kick or Snare Drum… Credit will be provided (It’d be worthless but still provided lol).

If anyone is interested at the moment I am using the LoFi Box Preset already in Massive, it sounds like a Kick (A weak weird one) and might work. But it sounds too synthy… Have been trying to tweak it…

The main thing for making kicks I find is to choose a good thick bass note, and then add a pitch envelope that starts the note off something like 24 semitones higher, shifting it down quickly.

In Massive drag the blue number 4 envelope tap to the box just under the Pitch number on the first oscillator, drag the number next to the (new) blue 4 up until it says 24.

In the central panel click on the 4 Env again to reveal its controls, drag level all the way down and adjust the decay while tapping a key.

This should give a very simple (but probably high pitch) kick sound, lower the main pitch by 24 or 36 to beef it up, and go from there.

Snares I would try playing with envelopes on some white noise, though there are other ways.

Thanks dude! Fast reply with awesome info! Really appreciate it, will test it out ASAP!

Just watched that vid, its the same thing bangthedj was saying but explained through video, very useful stuff thanks dude!

Thanks both of you, fastest lesson learnt EVER!

Now to fiddle with the White Noise as bangthedj earlier suggested!

Cant believe I have never seen or heard of that site before though, thanks for that jonsloan!

From the same site jonsloan suggested I found this:
