Mark Knight Co-Production Competition
If you think you have what it takes to make cutting-edge house music and to be in with your chance of winning a whole bunch of once-in-a-lifetime recording opportunities, you absolutely cannot miss out on this competition.
Tech-house stalwart Mark Knight has teamed together with Beatport to launch a new ‘co-production’ competition. The contest is the first of its kind (this aint no remix contest yo) and launches in mid-June, running for one month.
The idea behind the competition is to give up-and-coming producers the chance to receive some recognition for their work and to launch their career with an established dance music label. They will also receive 50% of publishing and an equal share of sales royalties. On top of this there will be a full PR and marketing campaign to launch the winning artist, plus the winner will be given their very own SoundCloud Pro account.
All you have to do is keep your eye on Beatport mid-June where you will find a downloadable 8-bar loop by Mark Knight. He will also upload a bass-line to Toolroom’s online store. Entrants will be required to finish the track, name it and upload it to Mark Knight’s SoundCloud profile.
The winning tune, announced by Toolroom on 19th July, will be released in physical format as an ‘exclusive track’ on Mark Knights’s Toolroom Knights CD, out in October 2010 and available via all digital platforms.
Full terms and conditions relating to music for the competition will be available on Beatport and Mark’s dot com.
I’m not doing any remix competitions anymore. It’s ironic, i do all these remix competitions and they all turn out a waste of time, i do one remix for a label and it gets signed straight away. I’m just doing that from now on.
i dunno man…pretty big label!
if you dont want to answer Roben, but did you get an advance on the song that got signed?

I did it for them for free, but i will expect % on sales.
wish i had the skills to enter comps like this i’ve not managed anything half decent for months…
i still feel like i learn something for every comp i enter, even if ive never gotten close to winning one
I think there are a lot of rubbish competitions, but since half of beatports top 100 is on toolroom this one is worth a try.
Thanks for the info

Just remember that when it comes to vocals, they prefer one stab vox on repeat…
it’s worth doing just as a learning exercise, even if you don’t enter the competition.
