Mashups

just wondering if a video on how to make mashups from start to finish would be possible. Just think it would be fun to mess around with a handful of songs and create a sweet mashup. Any help on creating them would appreciated.

I can’t be bothered too look - long day in the office - but I am sure i came across a few mash-up tips on yt

Check out the Amazing Slow Downer, it does a brill job with both slowing or speeding up songs and pitching them up without that awkward sound (It leaves intact the kick drum, mostly, etc.)

thanks for the tip flaxo, just wondering how this incorporates into a mashup? In other words, does the app play a big factor in producing a mashup? I really want to find a website that has sampled already made of different hit songs. I just want to put on together for fun at first to learn how to position different acapellas and instrumentals in certain places for a mix.

Can we have a few tech tips on mashups? I think making a few good mashups is a great way to get a new producer’s name out there. Maybe dissecting a mashup by romain g or ken loi

been doing some mash ups in Traktor 2 , it have amazing features and tools to mash up mixes . heheh

Post one up Aline, I’d love to take a listen

I would also really like to see a Mashup tutorial from start to finish done professionally. This would help us out a lot here

lay 2 or more tracks into arrangement view. cut up sections. re-arrange. cross fade…

bounce to a new audio track!

done!

ps. make sure they are in the same key.

about a year ago I was a little bit bored and decided to make some mashup, just for fun. actually it was my first mashup but I liked the final result (im rather sceptic when it comes to my creations  ).

It’s an old, classic trance tune - Greece 2000 but remixed by Sander Van Dien mashed-up with Cosmic Gate - Not Enough Time (Club Mix; as far as I remember)

What I learnt during the process is:

  1. it’s good to have songs in the same key but sometimes you can manually transpose (at least in Ableton) song to get “into the key”
  2. the key is to find a “good” song(s). If the songs are good then you almost dont need to do anything, or just few tweaks. If the songs are little less than good then you need to have some fun in arrangement view. If the songs are “bad” then you’ll have a mashup nightmare
  3. free frequency ranges and mid/side stuff is very important. For example in that mashup there are two melodies that share pretty similar frequencies so it should sound hmm not good but Cosmic Gate melody plays very wide and overall it nicely fit into the mix.

youtube tutorial!!!

+1 and I’m sure it’s a good way to start putting some of your own flair into a DJ set. I’d love to see a good tutorial on mashing up. I’ve always been a huge fan of how Kaskade can take 2-3 song, mash them all together and it sounds like the song was written that way from the beginning.
