Mastering/Prog House using Logic

Hi,

Just watched the mastering tutorial and noticed that you mastered on the main mix. I’ve heard differences of opinion in my journey using Logic and making music and I know different producers have their way!! Someone said to me once “It’s always best to bounce your mix and then master it on a new page” something about logic not having to deal with all the processing going on??

Is there any truth in this, is it rubbish? does it really make a difference?

Also I read an article in “Music Tech Focus Mastering edition” about bouncing your mix and then using parallel compression on a duplicate of your track to make an even louder master what with the loudness wars etc…what is your take on this please?

Thank you,

Dawn.

hi dawn,

mixing it down and then reimporting shouldn’t really make any difference.

if your computer is struggling with what is going on before the mastering stage, then yes do export it and then start on a fresh project.

as for bouncing and using parallel compression, this is a cool trick for making your mix louder without squashing it!
