Hey guys, I have composed a good sounding beat but when I mix it during my sets with other tracks, it sounds way too low and not enough bass. Obviously because my track hasn’t been mastered. Can anyone help?
Hi,
i’m no expert on this and need help myself but i have found that i can achieve some better results using plugins.
i use Ableton and usually on my master channel i have some light compression to make the mix gel, some sonic maximizer, some EQ and then a waves L2 to bring up the volume.
Hope this helps.
yeah thats pretty similar to what i use.
T-RACKS ON THE MASTER CHANNEL FOR ME
I HAVE A BRILLIANT PRESET IF ANYONE WANTS A COPY
psp vintage warmer gives a nice fat sound also and they do a nice limiter
Do you use a preset on the PSP vintage warmer or your own settings. Would be interested in what settings sound good as currently i dont use this and wondered if it would give me a better sound etc.
It’s the Waves ones for me too, make sure you have selected the right sounds for the track and mixed them properly aswell as mastering will only serve to highlight the problems at that stage if there is any rather than fix them.
thanks for the reply guys! ill def try this out
I let you into a secret from my master channel presets, I got this information from a professional engineer, who set it up one night round mine when mucking around on a track, so I was cheeky and saved it as a template.
Here goes.
INS 1 - CamelPhat (Just the Filter)
INS 2 - Waves Q2-Paragraphic EQ
Settings:
1 ON - High Pass / -17.8 Gain / 30 Freq / 7.0 Q
2 ON - Low Pass / -18.0 Gain / 20900 Freq / 7.0 Q
INS 3 - Waves RChannel
Preset - Compression Master V1
INS 4 - Waves L2
Preset - Limiter Master V1
Settings:
Turn ARC off and Set Release 0.01
INS 5 - Waves L1-Ultramaximizer
Settings:
Threshold = -3.0
Out Ceiling = -0.3
Release = 10.0
Thats basiclly it, off course everyone does it differently but you could wack this in and see how it sounds.
Forgot to metion after I have rendered from cubase, I drop it into T-racks and use one of the presets, either Gentle Master 1 or Gentle Master 2, always listen to both to see which sounds better. Don’t forget at this stage to turn your monitors up
I usually put the tracks into Pro Tools and use the Waves bundle to do the adjustments. I have yet to make a track good enough to actually give out, in which case, I would probably hire a professional.
