Melody Writing

Hey just need some advice on melody writing. I can put a pretty good track together with a solid chord progression, nice drums, good transitions but then it seems like i hit a brick wall and i know you can build a simple melody from the chord progression but these always seem forgetful and uninspired. How would i develop my melody writing? Thanks for reading

For me if i feel uninspired i work out the chords and melody of a few current tracks i like. it can give you some good ideas.br

i ALWAYS transpose things to C minor scale. this means everything im learning im learning on the one scale so its easily releatable… you will get to know the scale so well you can just think of stuff in your head an lay it down.br

i have a couple of thoughts.br
br
one, start with the melody, don’t start with the chords. it can be easy to just falling into making a melody that follows too close to the chords. that can be pretty uninspiring. you might try just thinking of melody first and then coming up with the chords that go with that melody.br
br
personally, i generally work out chords and melodies on my guitar. i know it far better than the keyboard so it makes it easier to come up with interesting things.br

finally, consider carrying around a recorder or add a recorder app to your phone. anytime you are out wandering around and a melody, riff, progression, even an interval pops into your head, record it. that’s when i find melodies the most, when i am doing every day life stuff.br
