hi all , anyone know the best way way to get midi from audio/wave files ? tried a few programs but no joy . I use reason and logic . thanks
if you wanted to use an audio file as in individual hits from a loop in reason you could sample and slice into nnxt or you could just get recycle ,its so easy 2 use man and it doesn’t cost that much … not sure on the logic front .![]()
aw i have recycle man and do make rex files , it actually has an option to save as midi but its never the right notes .
Do you mean somehow converting audio into midi as in if you have a chord played as audio the midi somehow reproducing the notes played but in midi?
I would be suprised if that is possible. I would just replay it.
aye suppose man , guess i could play them . just tryin to find a lazy way haha
First google search I found ![]()

Have no idea if it’s accurate or not
Oh found another one too
Audio to MIDI and MP3 to MIDI Software
Yeah you can with Logic… takes a bit of getting used to with the settings for it.
Not at the Mac now… so heres a rough idea (App to follow Guys! :D)
Import your Audio to the Arrange in Logic.
Open up the Sampler window to see the waveform.
In the file options, hit audio to midi. Boom.
Now… You’ll get a load of options - think it comes up in the dialog box as its converting it. If you move the sensitivity around, you’ll see a load of lines on the bottom of the waveform going on the transients - same as recycle.
Only works or works best with mono. Not sure if it converts to mono automatically or you do it beforehand - ages since I done it. Not sure what the different results might be.
Different options there for Drums / Guitar stummed / guitar plucked etc… so choose something similar in speed style.
The file appears on top of the audio file in the Arrange… Its Blue like the Audio File, not green. I remember it to be annoying to slide the midi off away from the audio, but it does seperate. If you have a midi track under it, it’ll probably slip down.
Works cool enough with drums. I remember throwing in a couple of melody bits, but you need to use a bit of imagination to fill in the blanks that the sensitivity has left out.
Let me know if you have any problems & I’ll check it out, but as I say, its not a feature that I’ve used too much - I’d say with regular use, you’d get the hang of it.
Tell us how you got on with it as well Man ![]()
aye that worked
. Thanks man come in handy

you can do this in cubase. just record audio and then transpose to midi.
Nice one ICN…totally forgot about that one in Logic.
Not 100% sure how it works but a friend of mine uses Melodyne to do the same. Says it’s pretty accurate.

Sometimes think that its kinda like cheating on your Wife making Midi’s like that - But what she doesnt know wont hurt! ![]()
Nice to have, but I havent used it that much. Surprised Ableton doesnt have it as its basically a groove extraction tool… they have that covered, so you’d think it would be in there.
Never tried Melodyne… Think there’s a little stripped down version that you can get. Must see if theres a demo for the buzz
