Some nice Tips on Parallel Compression & EQ’ing Kicks to Bass here from Chocolate Puma.

They’ve been up there a good while now… Only just remembered where I saw these tips.

I’ve been trying out the Logic Match EQ Kick & Bass thing on a couple of things & its a great Idea. I dont know if there is an equivilent plug for PC.

Download 15 free loops - taken from riemann 06 feat. DAPAYK

Got this Email from Florian Meindl’s W/site - havent DL’d them yet… But the Riemann stuff is usually very good.

hey music producers!

here you can download 15 free loops taken from the new riemann kollektion 06 feat. dapayk http://www.florianmeindl.com/riemann

Saw it somewhere else:

Heres 40 Samples from the S2S Deep House Stabs Pack.

Some right rubbish in there as you’d expect. But its nice to hear the loops w/out drums for a bit of inspiration - Especially w.Tech getting a lot deeper these days. Wouldnt make me buy it… but as I said, its nice to listen to.
ICN (02/09/2010)
Heres something that will help you create a good groove where all the different elements build up & form the rhythm supportively.

Make an 8 Bar loop @ 125 in your arrange

Place a Kick - not 4 to the Floor… but 2 to the floor… It’ll sound slow like 1/2 time… So thats a kick on 1 _ 3 _ (No kicks on _ 2 _ 4 )

You can put a Clap or a Snare on 2 & 4 if you like… or on 3, or just 4 - whatever you like.

Now build up your bass ( you can use multiple bass sources… a couple of notes from a Sub and a different bass synth up an octave higher… Be creative…)

Try not to put any bass notes on 3 & 4 if you can… unless its some kind of long attacky type sound.

Dont add any Hats just yet… build up the groove with all the other elements.

Add some Perc, Stabs, or Fx’d and delayed elements… try setting different delays on different parts to get the groove going without Hats. You can throw a filter on these to keep them lower down if you like.

Pads - whatever.

When you think its sounding cool & you are bouncing along to it w.out the extra Kicks, try adding the 2 & 4 Kicks back in.

Sounds cool

I’ll bet you’ve just come up with something totally different to what you’d normally do. Not having that extra kick in there really makes you compensate.

Now… as you spread out your track, you can start adding the different elements every 8bars as you go & you still havent even started to think about making hat patterns.

Great way of saving something & actually having something to keep 'til later.
i really like this tip im gonna put it into action soon.

Nice one Mussi - Its a different approach to the same thing really!

.200 Drum Machine Samples

Posting these in here 'cos they are going to be lost on the site if not.

Lenners Posted a version of them previously - But I got these from here a while back & they’re grand. Its worth going through to find a “special” sound for mangling.

One file as well - so pretty cool.

Some of those Machines that you’ve never heard of before have some pretty unique hits.

http://www.hexawe.net/mess/200.Drum.Machines/

All the Roland 808 / 909 stuff is in there. Handy if you’re just building your library.

This was posted in the mnml forum - thought it was very interesting - but not a tip as such

Ask any true artist what art is. There’s this ignorant concept of originality out there conceived by people that can’t or don’t create a work that is digestible.

The Berghain sound is a result of three plus decades of artists bringing Detroit, London, and Berlin to the table and rehashing and re-exploring ideas. Negation is in the process of copying and to an artist this is called ‘editing.’

So a man from Malaysia exploring the Berghain sound through his own cultural filter now is the boundary, not some imaginary boundary and new genre you perceive to be out there. Every genre of music to exist comes directly from its fans copying it and giving their own interpretation on it.

If no one were to imitate the sound, it would mean the sound is irrelevant and uninspiring. A more apt analogy to your photocopy one, is everyone imitating it would be like people breaking it into pieces and taking their favorite parts and making another sculpture or collage where new details emerge.

People here are trying to find new ways to explore the sonic playground more than they are trying to emulate X track or Y artist. It’s a bit more complex than you’re giving it credit for.

This is my favourite subject - Boredom Warning!!

Tech is definitely going through a major change at the moment. The Whole Minimal / Tech House thing has fractured & you’ve got the minimal camp still doing it that way & the tech house lot going all ethnic sample mad.

Listening to stuff on Beatport, all you can hear as you skip through countless tracks is Stab, Funny Sample, White Noise, Riser… on pretty much every track. Its gone a little formulaic & stale at best…

Thats why the direction its taking now is soo good. Its got so many elements, from Deep House, Acid, House, Dub, Dubstep, Loop Techno, you name it. Its complete freedom to explore. Its all tied together by the glue that is the low end… the rest is up to you.

Theres some real Doomy Fx laden Tech, Harder Tech House w.big reverbs & the more Abstract falling apart sounding Tech - All of which I lump into this current sound.

Some of the Guys have been chugging away since  late 90’s / 00’s & never got on the Minimal Train. But plenty have come back to it after exploring it. They had to raise their game to make Minimal & undoubtably gained so much knowledge in sound design & pulling off a super skillful mix. Its funny that the rebellion against Minimal was/is/has actually been fulled by experience from Minimal.

I can totally identify with the point the Guy in that post was making, cos I feel the exact same way about it. I love this sound. Feel totally inspired to explore the limits of my DAW to see what sort of noises I can get out of it. I dont feel that I’m copying anyone in particular… but I’m inspired to experiment experiment experiment.

Its good to realise that there are no limits. This is what we should all know / do anyway, but its good to be reminded. I dont give 2 fks anymore about what something sounds like… its all about the idea & whether I love the music or not. Thats whats so cool about all that old Detroit stuff.

It’ll be interesting to see just how commercial it’ll become. I think it’ll be all about the music this time. I think there was a time there where the whole Minimal / Tech House stuff just got so soulless & commercial. I used to buy 10 - 15 tracks a month from Beatport for a long time. Then it was 3-4, then nothing. I’ve moved on.

Its got to be about the music & the passion at the end of the day, otherwise its just a load of wank.

Dude this is an interesting thing, for me I’m biding my time because I’m from the old school techno days when things were harder and faster. I have only just got used to things slowing down but something has started to grab me again, things are starting to get a bit of pace again and a bit more twisted and not sound like rehashed house (I’ve got nothing against house) techno has always Been about creating mad hipnotic sounds that sound like there from the future. Minimal for me was just a huge ***** money making machine that bored the fcuk out of me. Richie hawtin, dave Clarke, icn and slender and the htsl techno thread have made me think about techno again.

Its Hug time!

Mate - I think that its fair to say that we’re all influencing eachother. Love that HTSL Thread. Its been a real turning point for me.

Well I am glad that my post created some thought - TBH when I first listened to electronic music in the late 70’s when I was 13 - 14 I was hooked on bands like Cabaret Voltaire, DAF, Human League before they got commercial too name just a few, because they were sticking there fingers up too the rest off the music industry very similar to the punk explosion that was happening at the same - only the electronic kids legacy is still going strong and were far more experimental

I think this sound we’ve been posting will never be that commercial except at some dodgy clubs in eastern europe - but I think thats a good thing as the people who make, play and buy it have a great passion and I think it is a complement to the movement which is not only that Klock, faki sound but more wide spread as our 100 or so vids prove

But now it is here I hope it stays with the same passion for breaking the mold and getting darker ofcourse

some of the stuff you’ve posted is almost goth/tech no ! awesome stuff! it definatly show your punk side

ive always thought that techno has a close relationship with punk

@Slender

Deffo - There are so many other Artists out there other than the Poster Boys.

Just love Good Music… Doesnt matter what it is. Great is Great. Thats how you get the Buzz.

LOL goth/tech, not sure I would be comfortable with that but you may be right - though I was never into punk/gothic fashion - more like a joy division kid

When I forst heard these twotracks in a very dodgy club in the backstreets of soho it really made me realise that the wierd electronic s**t I was listening too was dance music and I never looked back
But I was also going too northern soul/funk squated partes at the same time

But I still think like a punk

Will listen to them later Mate… Nice one, heard Being Boiled before - but not the other one.

LOVE Joy Division. This is my Favourite JD Song ever. We didnt play covers in the Band I was in, but we made an exception for this.
