Mix and Sound Quality Advice

Hello, been watching so many tutorial videos my mind feels like it’s falling out the other side!  But it’s awesome, been using Ableton for about 3 years and never once thought to actually get some training.

So here is my song I’m working on now:

I’ve got the main layout, and everything mostly set.  When I play it on a louder system (had a friend play it at Smartbar here in Chicago) and it sounded “murky”.  Any tips/idea’s on what I need to clean up.

I think the underlying conga/toms may be too bass heavy and interfering with the kick/bassline.  Not too sure.  Thanks, this forum is the best!

try changing the envelopes on the kick and low bassy drums.

you want the decay to fall off a bit quicker so they aren’t rumbling as much. you might need to put the sustain down lower.

Also maybe slightly adjust the level between the kick and low percussion so the kick is very slight louder.

Glad to see someone is checking their stuff on a club system… its really the only way to tell if the lows are cool.

Thanks, gonna go home and give that a shot. I wanted to personally thank you for the video’s as well (I believe you are the one recording the one’s I’ve watched so far) even just seeing your work flow has helped me incredibly so.

More than worth the cash, I’m probably gonna go in for the 6 month plan when this one expires! Cheers!

Also, your avatar pic makes you look like one of the characters from the US version of the Office!
