Can you mix without EQ and Compression?

View Course

Bluffmunkey’s back with a video where he looks at getting your mix right before you even think about dragging an EQ or Compressor onto the channel and how to go about it.

There are three concepts to think about here, demonstrated in the video - Time, Frequency and Space - but ultimately, it’s all about choosing the right sound to begin with.

This is a super-useful lesson for all abilities, and could save you valuable time that you would’ve spent rectifying the wrong sound with EQ or Compression.

Check it out!

Great tutorial. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Useful information. I think we often want to immediately reach for EQ/compression as a silver bullet for everything, but it’s good to have other tools in your arsenal.

Welcome to the forums and thanks for your comment ! :sunglasses:

Great course thanks,

I personally prefer to comp and eq at least the kick and bass from the beginning, as I will be listening to it over and over again so many times. It makes sense to listen something that sounds good.

Overall though great ideas and inspiration, specially the reminder about the semitones.

Thanks a lot.
