Mixing question

i’ve got my latest track sounding more or less as good as it can I.M.O!!!

i’ve burned it to a CD and listened to it in my car( good system B.T.W ) along with professional tracks that have been released and there is something missing from it i cant quite get what it is!!

it’s as if it’s missing some warmth and colour to all the sounds!!

bearing in mind they sound pretty amazing on my monitors!!

SOOO my question is. is this the stage were if a label likes the track, its the MASTERING

they do to it that will add that final warmth and colour or does the track need more work

again i’ll mention it sounds spot A.T.M

Probably a bit of both to be honest, without hearing the track it’s difficult to really ‘assume’ with your track in it’s current state.

Have you A / B’d professional tracks with your track with your studio monitors too?

what does A\B’d mean roben??

essentially comparing a professional track that you admire the production of with your own played through the same system.

play the pro one for a bit, then yours, then the pro one, etc etc

compare how different they sound - richer, duller, flatter, brighter, etc

adjust your mix and master channel to emulate the other sound where you want to emulate it.

Jonsloan’s answered for me

how can you form a mixing and/or mastering opinion without hearing it?

where’s it at george? lets hear it!!

check it out in the mixes forum, i’ll put it up now

i just really want that professional sound now so i can start sending stuff away

hope you guys check it out

i’ve listen to your track. seems like your mix down is pleasing to the ear. from what i can tell things sit well in the mix.

i do think you need more sweeps and risers though. they may not seem important but a good sweep and the right riser makes great transitions from one section to the next especially if the energy changes a lot in a track.

sounds like trance and thats awesome!!!

if you listen to a lot of trance (which i’m sure you do) things are wisping around all over the place in their tracks.

one last thing. in the chorus at the end it sounds to plucky for a full on chorus i would probably stretch those notes out a little bit

other than that it sounds really good man. when i finish my track i put up and let you have a go at it!!!

I took a listen–nice work!

First, I’d have to say I’m on SonicAcademy to learn–so I’m right there with you.

Have you checked out the mastering tutorial?

http://www.sonicacademy.com/Producer/Course//Mastering.cid2418

It’s short and covers a nice basic setup for club mixes–although he even says commercial mastering is best left to a well equipped studio and a professional sound engineer.

The one thing that stood out to me when I listened to your track was something I read in Future Music or SoundOnSound or someplace–it said a lot of producers today are amping up the levels to make their tracks sound louder. If I could tweak one thing with your mix I’d say it sounds bright through-out. The two videos I mentioned above might help with warming it up a bit. Again, just my opinion.
