Monitor Dilemma
roben (29/06/2010) -

The HD25’s are awesome for DJing, just not very good for studio referencing because they don’t have a good mid/high response, not like the Sony MDR V700s anyways. It’s weird because they’re about £30 more expensive than the Sonys…
Sound Man…

I’m ok with them for a while anyway… I can get rid of them I dont like them, which is cool.

Working @ night. my bass is gone… Which I what I’m most concerned about - so I’ll see how it goes. I’m sure they’re grand.

Has to be a vast improvement to the 201’s! :hehe:

I have the KAM KHP1500 PRO… Essential piece of kit and at an affordable price too, fantastic! Which do you have icn?
Well…

At the moment - I’ve got a crappy set of Sennheiser HD201’s - Which are cheap as chips - so what do I expect really.

Just picked up some HD25 II’s for a good price - which have consistently got thumbs up on 4 different forums, coincidently - & all Threads running @ the same time. I know 'cos they’re a DJ staple, they’re probably going to be a bit exaggerated on the bottom end… but I hope that it will negate my current problem of not having any when I’m using them.

I know I DJ’d (Badly… My fault, not the Cans) on them a few years ago, probably the originals. Cant really remember what they were like, but they sounded better than the cheapo Sony’s I had on my decks @ the time, which were around the same price as my HD201’s. So I’m not buying totally blind or deaf - LOL

Should have them by end of the week. Kind of a necessity now with People insisting on going to sleep 'round here @ a reasonable hour. Wnakers.
All sounds good fella, let me know what the sound quality is like when you get them. You can never have too many headphones plus always good to keep my options open when it comes to me upgrading and looking for some more.

I do think thou that recently, the price of headphones have come down… a lot! You can get very affordable headphones today, that are just as good as the leading ones.
roben (29/06/2010)
What do you make of the Genelec 8040’s and the Rubicon R5A’s?
the Rubicon sound great better that the Rokit at low levels but the higher the level gets the harsher they become. for low level listening i would say the Rubicon over the Rokit any day but we all like to crank it and thats were the Rokit 5 start to own the rest of the 5’s imo.

i originally thought the Rokit 5 sounded gutless but going to have a second listen on fresh ears because as a friend suggested, it may have been because i went straight to the 8s and cranked them up before listening to the 5’s lol maybe i should have done that the other way round.

i also have to weigh up if i want detail or power

@HJ

Yeah Man… Obviously not going to get rid of these 201s - so definitely, It’ll be interesting comparing everything together.

Cant wait to get them now tbh! Will definitely check back here & let you know what I think. As long as they’ve bass - I think I’ll like them!

I want to upgrade from my Alesis M1 Active Mk2’s, they’ve have been great but want to step it up a notch or two sound quality wise.

I’m torn. I was fixed on the Event Opals until you guys ripped them to shreds lol.

its all about bang for buck, what you want them for and size of your studio as well as personal taste.

i’ve just sold my M1 MK2 because i could never get on with them they had only been used maybe 3-4 times but from the box i just didn’t like them. they sounded nothing like i thought they would. in fact i would go as far as to say they sounded very hollow in areas

i went with Consistency and detail over volume.

I got the KRK ROKIT 5 G2 and with a little help from a friend only paid £130 for them which is super cool because they were £270 i think.

Sweet! Sounds like a bargin mate! Can I get them for 130? Or was it a friend sorting out a friend thing?

Jaysus! No way you got them for that price! Niiiiiiice action! How did you pull that one off?

my friend phoned the company and asked to speak to one of the managers by their name, (i think they know each other on a business term) with in 10 mins i had ordered a set of monitors for £130, they are coming with all cables and a set of mopads. don’t know if its something he can do on a regular and after saving me that sorta money i feel cheeky to ask. also i was told that i would have to wait 3-7 days and not the usual next day delivery thing but what the hell i don’t care.

i will ask if he can do it on a regular but please don’t bombard me with PM’s requesting stuff as it may have been a mate helping a mate type thing.

That’s cool buddy I understand, if you can get it however, then i can buy now.

spoke to my friend and he said that it kinda costs him to do that for me because he will sell other equipment back a cut cost, as egg mentioned to me on ichat it maybe some kind of insurance or tax fiddle (i don’t know).

he did say though roben that you should never pay the advertised price and goto companies that do price match or price beat and give quotes from each, sort of like play them off with each others prices. they will usually ask for a quote number from the other companies and he said its easy to get £100 knocked off something costing around £300-£400 if you have the patients and bottle to talk the talk lol he mentioned that those companies claim this sorta thing back from their suppliers on manufacturers.

learn something new every day.

Just to bring this one back up again briefly…

Have my Sennheiser HD25’s for about a week now & really like them.

They are definitely bass heavy & you’ll notice the error in truth when you listen back on your monitors. But I’ve found that you need only adjust things a little to get them to where you need to be.

The important thing about them is that the bass does sound very good in them, and I’m getting a good representation of whats good & whats bad. To be fair its not too much off. I haven’t been doing any mad changing of sounds. When I’m auditioning things with them, they’ll still sound pretty much ok when I listen back on my monitors… just need to increase the levels a little.

Forgot how small they were too. Not too bad for wearing for long periods.

Will probably get some open ones in the future, but for now they’re cool & silent.

Very happy with my purchase.
