Monitor mixing

Hi guys.

Just looking for some advice with a problem I’m having. I’m a relative beginner house music producer and I have been experimenting with different tracks over the last 6 months or so and have created a couple of things I’m really pleased with, but theres a problem thats really pissing me off. I produce on my macbook using headphones and the sound feedback is really crisp and the basslines sounding really deep. But played through a normal system it sounds **** and nothing like it does through the headphones off my mac. I’ve put the music on my itunes and even shared it on soundcloud, and once again in the headphones it sounds really good, but through my monitors (krk rokit 5’s) or other speakers the sound is nothing like the original that I get off the laptop to the headphones. No amount of EQ fiddling seems to enable me to replicate the sound Im getting from my headphones either. Any tips where I’m going wrong guys? Thanks.

sounds like your headphones are seriously colouring the sound giving you a false impression of the sound.

you just have keep going back to the mix listening on different systems until it sounds good on everything.

every system will have its week points so lots of different options will help.

I always use:

Main Monitors

Headphones

Car

Living Room cinema Surround

Usually if i get it sounding good on all 4 i am happy

Phil. I am having a problem kind of similar, I was talking to some producer firends and they keep telling me about some earphones that can give you not only a left and right panning spectrum but also what they called “sound positioning”

They claim that by using the stereo enhancer and a good pair of earphones they can place the kick and snares in the center (as always intended), the hi hats all the way up (on top) and then enhance the synths and position them in virtually a 3d space.

I even bought the earphones they suggested (i dont know if i can write brand names here) but i still dont get it.

thats the reaons why i asked in my previous post about stereo enhancing.

Any ideas here?

Many thanks in advance
