Monitoring headphones

Just being a bit lazy i read in one of the threads somebody mentioned some good sony monitoring headphones does anybody know which are the best ones to buy.cheers

Sony mdr V700

sony hd headphones 7509

Sweet as a nut. When I first got them I thought they made the sound seem a bit squeezed but after using them for a bit I could do a fairly good job mixing a whole track down. Generally I use my monitors to get everything as I want then go to the cans to hear if anything is sounding harsh or panned in the wrong place. You can pull out the real minor details. Especially good if you don’t have very good acoustic treatment, which I don’t (apart from a few bass traps).

I hear good things about the beyerdynamics too but when I tried those I thought the bass was a bit much, good for mixing bottom end but not so good for anything else in my opinion.

AKG is the other thing you will hear everyone talking about. It’s obviously down to personal preference but like your mixing room you will get used to how they sound and be able to translate that in your mix, as long as you can hear detail then anything is good enough as long as it’s transparent not hyped in any frequency.

ive heard that akg 240 mk2 are really good studio headphones

sony ones are dj headphones

make your own informed decision. do what you feel is best and suits your needs.

Sony 7509HD DJ headphones! I would never take mine out of the studio they are definately not DJ headphones.

sennheiser hd650, these are meant to be the nuts, takes about 200 hours to break them in though!

I have a pair of SRH440’s which I am happy with - got them dirt cheap too
