Monitoring Nightmare

Hi guys,

I’ve recently upgraded my PC to W7 Ultimate 64bit and now for some reason my Yamaha’s are controlled by the windows volume control? Meaning that all of the onboard sounds and sample library in Ableton are playing louder than the speakers themselves, which by the way sound piss poor and leave me with earache due to the high pitch noise that I cant actually hear but can defo feel

I’ve got the speakers connected to an Audigy 2zs Platinum Pro external soundcard, but they are plugged into the headphone port of it as I couldn’t get the speakers to register with the other connections for some reason…

As you can probably tell I’m a bit clueless when it comes to hardware so any help/advice on this would be much appreciated.

If anyone knows anyone that does home visits then that’s even better!

Anybody out there…??? :Whistling:

I would invest in a proper pro audio sound card. Sound quality, drivers and routing would be massively improoved.

Something like a focusrite.

If you go to windows control panel then in to sound you can adjust the volumes etc.

Thanks Phil.

I’ve tried adjusting the volume in the windows control panel but like I said before for some reason my speakers are now operated through that, but nothing has changed connection wise so just not sure why its started doin it now…

I’ll have to look into getting another soundcard then I guess, otherwise there’s no point me having these quality monitors!

BTW lovin the Dutch House tuts

The Focusrite Scarlet Would be a good buy. I have the pro 24 and its the best sounding soundcard ive ever used.

You could also try to get a Mini Jack to Dual jack cable made up and use your soundcards Line out in the meantime.

I’ve already got a y-cable jack to mini jack for the speakers. I’m gonna try re-installing all of the drivers for the card, removing all of the cables from it and starting from scratch. If that doesnt fix it Phil then I will be purchasing a focusrite.

If you have a mini jack Y Lead why are you coming out of your headphones and not the Line out?

Because it doesn’t recognise that the speakers are connected for some reason? I’ve re-installed the drivers and have now plugged the speakers into the main soundcard, rather than the external breakout box and it seems to have done the trick.

I was unable to do that before as I had my decks connected from that to one of the line’s out on the box so that I could record mixes.

Now you see why I said that it would help if there was somebody available to do home visits…
