Multiband compression

Is the basic concept of mulitiband compression to compress th frequecny band that is the most prominent?

no its to compress each frequency band independently so you have a more controlled sound but less damage to the other freqs.

e.g.

if you had a bass heavy track and put a standard stereo compressor on it, it would always be the bass triggering the comp. but this would effect the whole signal.

with a multiband only the lower freq band would be effected by the low end and it would get compress but leave the higher freqs intact giving you the control you desire with out the same repercussions.

Cheers phil, that made perfect sense. Still Need to search 4 sum vids on here where th multiband is being used to get th concept of it nailed!

BTW, if anybody knows, or can remember any HTSL vids or tech tip vids on here where

multiband compression is being used will you plz let me know!

other than the mixing section at the end of the mainroom tut

ill do something for you… maybe on processing groups.

nice 1 phil. i really feel like my sounds are lacking something. especially the synths.

i defo think it may be the case of mastering the art of multiband compression

Dont rely on the mix down to make your track. If you have a bad track to begin with then it wont help much. Just like if you have a shoe with torn up leather, polishing it wont do much because the shoe is torn up and looks like Sh!t to begin with :stuck_out_tongue:
