feel free to slander the song on soundcloud! appreciate any critiquing.
ENJOY!
Hey!
Cool to hear original stuff, this sounds pretty fresh.
Just some technical notes;
The main bassline was WAY too loud. I suggest first compressing it, eqing out the sub bass below about 90 Hz, boosting around 6 Hz and 10 Hz for some sparkle, and throwing on a spectrum analyzer with your kick drum and bass to make sure you don’t have too many frequency spikes blending.
Bus the drums and bass together in the final mix, and compress the two. You want your bass roughly level with your kick.
Sidechain the bass very slightly to give the kick a bit more gravitas.
If you have already compressed the kick, raise the attack and release on the compression and lower the threshold and raise the ratio to get a bigger kick sound.
Composition Notes:
As with many early electro house chunes I made, there’s an overuse of a certain 4-8 bar phrase. Admittedly, repetition is key to House, but it needs to have variations every 4 to 8 bars, even if the changes are only slightly audible.
Try adding a new bassline, one that’s perhaps thicker, that will play with the original.
Try to give a sense of melody; this will guide your listeners through the song.
cheers really appreciate all the advise i will try doing that compression idea. ive only been doing this since april so im still a noob
oh and that bass is all one track so do you think i should make a dublicate and use one for sub bass one for upper?
also im using albeton and the standdard eq doesnt boost as low as 6-10 hz are there any good free ones?
I think Flaxo might have meant 6khz-10khz
I like the song, I’m very new here too so I’m a little afraid to give much technical advice, but it’s got a great bassline. I agree though a little variation could help, maybe throwing in a change at the end of every 4 or 8 bar phrase, I dunno. Up to you
The start is a tad long and the track is a little repetitive which is very common with electro music anyway
It needs a little more in the main section like a high synth riff over the top or perhaps some vocals
it seems to be mainly mid range and bottom end (which is lacking in areas) so u need to balance it out
good start
Good catch. I meant 6 kHz. DEFINITELY don’t boost around 6 Hz. Although if you do find an eq that can do that, let me know, I’ve been trying to find an eq with a broader range.
i liked this. definitely a good track. i liked all the SFX you had going. good mixdown as well.
the bass could use some more variety but I am sure that you will get better with time!
hey i made a few changes to the track too in some of your advise, its probably still too loud but im running ableton 7 atm and cant find any free limiter vsts!
