NES/Nintendo sounds, can't get it to sound right

Yes.

I know a lot of people dont like the sound, but I particularly like it, especially for electro house etc. I also know its made very easily…you know like a square with a square LFO…but I think theres more to it, because I can’t get it exact. Or anything near if it helps.

You’l notice it straight away in this song:- YouTube

and of course in this one: http://bit.ly/ghlzvU (link shortened because of swear word) after the little intro…then all the way through the song.

In a matter of fact i love that style of music ^, it seems so simple but all I need is like a link to a video or a vst which covers these sounds, that would be great. Or if you know a method hit me up! Thanks.

I like the Atari St Sound  Maybe try something like this: ymVST - I havn’t tried it myself, but this or some sort of SID type emulator might give you the sound you are after. A long time ago I put up a whole series of chip tunes that I converted from Atari YM-format to mp3. Check it out:

Totally awesome if you ask me

Dude its a super fast ARP! playing chords or if you have the ableton arp its using the + octave step thingy

You can enhance the sound by putting auto-tune after it and playing with the portamento and retune speed

and have the original sound be a square or triangle with chorus and junk, and make the cutoff decay concavely, or just lower the arps gate

You can find loads of tutorials on this on youtube. Just try searching. Here is one example:-

I use a lot of 8bit-ish sounds in one of my projects. Check out these suckas:

ToneBytes » Bleep' - free chiptune synth

and Toad & Peach from Tweakbench:

Both are free and suitably awesome. Also there is an ableton live rack from AfroDJMac floating around on the interwebs that has some wicked (if not authentic) glitched out gameboy synth sounds.

whoa, dr. kucho is on the forums!!? Awesome:D
