Come on SA guys there are so many tutorials on every sub genre of trance/house. The last drum and bass tutorial was a really good starting point but we need something a bit more on the liquid note.
Anyway after waiting for so long I have decided to do a bit of my own research. I am starting to make good sounding liquid tracks now and heres what you have to do.
EQ everything
Every instrument needs to have its on space in the spectrum. This is so things dont start to become muddy. Heres what I usually Eq at.
Cut kick below 100hz and boost around 100-150
Cut snare below 100hz and boost at around 300-500
Low pass sub basslines at around 80-100hz
Low pass mid basslines at around 80-100hz and cut at 100-200 to let the kick through
Heres where you get experimental with everything above around 3k. Make sure you use plenty of pads, pianos, synths. Just keep experimenting until u get something sounding good.
Also remember to eq each element so that you can hear everything, and be sure to keep everything in the same key. if your struggling just make your first note c and use all the white notes after that.
To add more energy to your tracks add some high passed white noise at around 8k-20k.
Indivision do some amazing tuturials on YouTube. They use FL Studio but it can be translated to your choice of DAW.
Overall its all about experimenting and finding your own style. I’m no expert but things are certainly ALOT clearer since writing the tuturial request!
Hey Physical, nice advice. I will defo check out the vids you mentioned.
You think you could check out the drop I posted up and pull it apart for me? Its in the tips & tricks section.
cheers

Please SA, make this tutorial. It is my dream to become a liquid dnb producer like Netsky. There’s just not enough info out there about the bassline. Just detuned squares with a LP filter won’t do the job, I (we) need more info. Ableton is my favourite, but it doesn’t really matter…
The last months have all been trance and house, but that is like 1 inch in the mile that music is. So I feel like everybody should broaden their musical horizons now and then.
Please I’m begging you! Big ups to you guys!
no reply? PLEASE PEOPLE SPREAD THE WORD! SA ARE YOU BLIND?

Yeah for real? How many request is this going to take? Asking if your blind is a bit harsh, but he does state a good point.
There is quite a big number of people asking about this tutorial. more then the avg norm. The last thing we need is yet another trance and techno tutorial. How to sound like Netsky is a great idea.
All his tracks are gold.

Any kind of dnb tutorial would go a long way into tempting me to subscribe to SA again.
I found the house/techno/trance tutorials useful, but as I’m not interested in making four to the floor music, I won’t be tempted back until SA puts out something different.
what they did with the house and techno stuff is great but it’s not just about techno and house, there is types of house that nobody gives a **** about. i’m not saying everybody cares about dnb, but try out different stuff takes a quick look around the forum like dnb, moombah, hardstyle, …
