**New Sonic Course **

Get to grips with the awesome world of Music Theory using our Beginners Guide to Music Theory course. In this second installment we look at scales, both major and minor and using these to build a baseline.

No HTSL Techno?

They just started working on the HTSL techno… I think/hope they’re using that Daniel Portman song, Tiny Dolls.

isnt that a progressive track??

Cool tut. It does what it says on the tin, beginners guide which is good enough for beginners.

Unfortunately didn’t learn anything from it, but was interesting watch either way. Looking forward to the HTSL Techno.

This exactly what I need and can’t wait for more!

Thanks

Great tutorial! Looking forward to the next one.

Which I hope will expand with Chords and Melodys.

What is the theory for scales starting on black keys e.g C#?

T - ST - T - T - ST - T - T ?

Depends whether you are talking about the C# Major or C# Minor scales.

For Major the formula always holds true regardless of starting point.

Tone - Tone - Semitone - Tone - Tone - Tone - Semitone

For Minor it will vary depending on the minor scale selected but for natural minor (the scale covered in the tutorial) the step pattern will always be.

Tone - Semitone - Tone - Tone - Semitone - Tone - Tone

Regardless of the starting point.

i suppose mnemonics are one way to remember the order.

perhaps a better is to print out the circle and place it on a prominent wall in your home.

that’s how i did it and its now permanently etched in my head. no more counting forwards or backwards.

as for circle progressions, they aren’t that useful. its probably better to think of the circle of fifths in terms of key relationships.

progressions tap into the circle but that’s about it.
