hey there,
i’ve been learning and practicing over the last couple of months and i’ve tried new mixing techniques (leastwise new for me). i made it short because right now my main purpose was to test the overall sounding. arrangement was secondary.
i would be grateful for some feedback!
P TBH this is very impressive, the sounds choices go well, all the elements sound like they are in the right place within the spectrum. The spacing of the sounds are done nicely too. What every you’ve learnt has paid off.
I can’t say what to improve on unless you finish it first as the preview was fine… ;]
solid work mate
thanks D! i think i won’t make a classic “original” version out of it, i’ve heard it at least 200 times so far… it’s time to move on to the next challenge
I agree with etl, very nice mixdown and good sound selection for sure.
I would personally sidechain the bass to the kick ever so slightly more though… Otherwise the new techniques are noticeable.
Not my style of track, but I can tell it’s well done. (You should finish it! Hobbyists make parts of tracks. Artists FINISH tracks. :P)
However, one thing that stood out to me was that the low end is very accentuated, a little boomy, maybe even a touch muddy. I didn’t sound bad on my studio monitors, but it was a little much. I think on a club system it would be pretty mushy.
A good reference track for dialing in the mix, in my opinion, would be:

Notice how the low end is still slammin’ – but it’s tighter and just a little drawn back, and the rest of the percussion has a little more snap and pop to it.
Only got time to have a very quick listen - but my first impression was that one of the best ways you could improve your production would be to try and ensure that every sound you use in your track sounds as good as possible on it’s own.
Then provided all the parts fit together well, i think this would improve your productions.
The reason that i say this is that the first thing i noticed in this track, is the kind of band-passed FX that plays from pretty early on in the clip you posted - this put me off the track quickly as it’s very limited in it’s frequency content - it’s very thin - and you do have quite alot of spare frequency range to fill in the track, so you could have this part much ‘bigger’ and fatter and more epic etc!
Try and fill out the whole frequency range with your different parts.
Apart from that, not a bad sounding track - pretty nice.
Other thing that springs to mind os that i thought the kick and the bass were both pretty boomy - this is kind of a cardinal sin in dance music, as it’s all about the bottom end! Try and either have a kick with less subby boom - or a bass - but not both, as it’s hard to fit the two together and make them work.
Hope that helps - this does sound pretty good though so keep it up mate.
