by 16th’s, bars, whatever?
I’m not usre what this means. You can set the grid to fixed to 16th or bar or whatever and use the pen to set automation. Is that what you mean?
Yeah… the pen. Keep forgetting about the pen. Thanks for reminding me Ant… I actually need to use it.
Why cant you draw a fkn line from point A to B? Nutters.
i the two years ive been using ableton i dont think ive ever used the pen :hehe:
Oh yes, Logic-style automation shapes would be great. I can’t stand Ableton’s automation. I use the pen by mapping the d-key on my keyboard to it so I can quickly draw in automation in 16th or 32nd grids. But it’s like Slender said… It’s time consuming and really worth their engineers to go in and change it.
I’m just mapping everything to my kboard tbh… and recording it in as I go.
Works fine, except for things that go on/off… Find it really hard to pinpoint it on the exact division I want. The on/off sounds juddery when its not precise.
Gonna definitely use the Pen & see if it makes life easier for that.
no need to use the pen to draw a point to point automation line… just ‘selecting the area’ then drag the automation line … same as using pen but quicker (is tah what ya mean?)

Lenners - Yes, this is what I do for most automation. I’ll leave the grid as adaptive and highlight a section and drag the line.
I use the pen tool and fixed grid for adding random (kind of) variation to my loops, adding a bit of delay or other effect on percussion hits, it makes it easy to add a little automation on the occasional hit.
Skylight (13/10/2011)
I read that the the creators of live have said 8 is there masterpiece and that there is not much need for a new one. It is what you make of it.
who knows tho
Like most software companies it would make no financial sense not to release a new version
It’s just a few days out from the 2011 NAMM show, and there’s talk that it may bring the announcement of Ableton Live 9. It’s been almost 2 years since the last major release, giving some substance to the rumor – so, what features might Live 9 bring?
According to the official rumor, Live 9 will include:
All of these features seem pretty believable – 64 bit support is pretty likely, as are some new effects. A new synth and Soundcloud integration aren’t so definite, but would certainly be well received features.
What about the not-so-official rumors? Here’s a few:
Stability improvements
Built in Max for Live
Dual monitor support
Track comping
Very soon, we’ll find out if NAMM 2011 really does mean a new version of Live. What new features would you like to see?
