Since I signed up a few weeks back I have done nothing but watch the tutorials! Hah! It’s brilliant for a beginner as the tuts really help you get to grips with the software that your using. I’m finding myself now thou going over old ground a little… Although I’m new to producing and have a long way to go yet, it would be good to perhaps see newer tutorials more frequently and to cater for a wider variety of music genres… Have SA ever thought of using another company in conjunction with them to produce the tuts… Sure it may cost a little extra but the ROI would I think potentially be more.
I’m a little torn on the options to have the same tut across all programs thou. At the moment, it’s good that perhaps three versions of it are available as right now, I couldn’t dream of porting anything over from the likes of logic or cubase.
Will be interesting to see how this pans out
I do like the fact that there is DAW specific Tut’s coming out. What better way to learn that to be taught about what you are using.
We pay the money - We get the tuts - its all good.
I dont mind watching anything, whether its cubase / ableton or Logic - cos, like everyone says, yeah - its all transferable.
Personally though - I’ve picked up a good few things from watching the recent Logic Tut. Some of them little small things, but its pretty cool. Sometimes its hard to see the wood from the trees, so its good to be able to veg out & watch someone else work with the program you use every day. Grateful for that & sincerely hope that theres more Logic content…
SO glad that I’m not the only one here who doesnt get to watch 1/2 as much as I’d like to. Wish there were 36hrs in a day sometimes…

More in-depth videos on things likemusic theory and the moretechnical aspects of music production would be good. This website is still very good value for money given all you get, but it’d be nice to do some more advanced videos. An example might include explaining in-depth the various reverb settings and the theory behind them; e.g:what to use for drums, vocals; etc. The understanding compressors videos are the kind of thing I’m on about. I want to know the theory behind what I’m doing so I can apply it properly and do my own thing rather than justcopying the HTSL videos and sounding like everyone else.
This is in production and will be with you soon.

We have actually tried this a couple of times and it gets very messy the quality was never as good as the guys here. Although we are still interested in doing this if we can find the right person/people

Yeah, i understand there Phil, you dont want people doing the tuts if there going to be poor quality really, you need people you can trust to produce.
I just havent got a clue WHAT to do… :hehe:
roben (18/07/2010)
If you don’t know your DAW then you need to be spending your time studying the Beginners tutorial before worrying yourself with the intermediate lessons (HTSL). You have to walk before you can run.
Anyone that knows their DAW can easily transfer what’s being shown on the tutorial to their own chosen DAW, regardless of what DAW the tutor is working in and regardless of however long you have been producing.
We don’t see future music telling the big name producers to show us their techniques repeated in different DAWs, why should here be any different.
This is the way I see it. A basic knowledge of your DAW is all you need to transfer the techniques.
I understand SA wanting to get more customers by making tuts in other DAWs, thats great! More ppl here the better. But the same in vid three DAW’s just seems doesn’t seem right to me.
roben (18/07/2010)

onetwoseven (18/07/2010)

[b]
I’d rather have 3 different tuts in any DAW, then the same one 3 times. The techniques are all the same, its easy enough to transfer them to the DAW you use.
I agree completely.
my opinion is its easy to transfer to another daw if you know it inside out. but if you dont its impossible. so its a catch 22.
for complete beginners you need it in all the daws. a complete beginner can not watch the ableton tut and do it in cubase as its laiad out differently, the menus and terminolgy is not exactly the same.
thats the point a was gettin across
or at least trying to!!!
I think seeing as we voted on what genres we wanted the HTSL videos to be we should vote on what DAW they should be made with before each one is started!

No point as Ableton would win hands down as there was a poll somewhere here before

That’s why the complete beginner should be doing the beginners tutorial in whatever DAW they use. If you look you’ll find SA have supplied Beginners courses for all DAW’s.

Well if thats the case then SA should stick with ableton if thats what people want and there the people paying there wages!
+1 for ableton
- 1 for whatever DAW the tutors feel like using, as mentioned before, makes no difference to me.
sa’s a business so not doing the htsl tuts in other daws is going to slash there market and profits
no matter what daw was used there would be somebody who would not be happy for me using a different daw each time would be fair but i think there would be more people upset if they did than if they duplicate the htsl’s like they have
