In my day you would just have to listen if 2 tracks were in key
Now is it worth me investing in Mixed in key or could I just use span

I have mixed in key and I like it but I don’t use the information that much, like you say as soon as you start queueing it you can tell if it doesn’t sound good.
I think MIK is good for music where you are going to mix the melodic parts of the tracks, for example trance, but if you are mixing just drums with a bit of bass it doesn’t really matter as long as it sounds good.
LOL I play techno so no melody
But thanks for the tip - don;t think I will bother then

Yes that is what I thought. I think when you are playing techno MIK just tells you tracks don’t work together when actually they might.

Being an anarchist that would just make me want to try it more

Ahh, I think I may have misunderstood the point of this thread. Sorry.
I now see what you wanted was to be talked into buying Mixed in Key, I’ll try again.
I have it, it is ace. I wouldn’t be without it. You should get it!
@ Ant - I see what you did there
LOL
been djing for about 9 years now and i actually never check key in track, i just mix them and hear if ther fit good tolgether.
feelt that is just simpler
i have mixed in key. its pretty cool.
im sure you could probably just pick 2 tracks slender that u know would mix well together…
BUT, i’ve found that mixed in key has helped me with our productions as well.
Lots of time before we start writing a new track we are thinking about keys and theory stuff. its pretty cool to look at a list of tracks and see what songs are in what keys and sometimes it sparks an idea and/or direction to take for a new song. Its cool 2 know what key other producers favor and tend to make songs more frequently in.
also if ur trying to do a mashup… ur ears are only gunna help so much. needs to be exact.
I don’t think I could hear a track and say… oh this is in Aflat. I doubt most people could.
we have this big DJ project we created in ableton and all the tracks have the key in the title of the clip. its cool cause when ur picking tracks u know its gunna mix right.

It isn’t really used to keep everything in the same key, it gives each track a code that means you can mix the next track in a key that compliments your current track.
But as I have said this is only really important if you are mixing the harmonic parts of the tracks.
Most professional DJs move around the Camelot wheel with every mix.
For a perfect mix, choose a keycode within one “hour” of your current keycode. If you are in 8A, you can play 7A, 8A or 9A next. If you are in 12A, you can play 11A, 12A or 1A. This mix will be smooth every time.
You can also mix between inner and outer wheels if you stay in the same “hour.” For example, try mixing from 8A to 8B, and notice the change in melody as you go from Minor to Major.
