How much time does everybody on here put into making tunes? I’m finding myself pretty frustrated with having to work while I could be spending time producing, I usually manage 30 mins at about 6.30am and an hour in the evening, but that’s it, never enough time to really get into it.br
br
Watch the odd tech video on here while at work just to pass the time, but I’m just itching to get back in front of my speakers all day!
sometimes on the weekend i can be in my studio up to 10 hours a day./PPyou got to find more time bro! :w00t:
The misses and kid mean I get zero time on the weekend :(br

Need to just quit my job
I’ve mentioned this before on this forum - i happen to know of some producers (mainly friends of friends), who have gotten very good at producing because they didn’t have to work, and could therefore effectively spend 8 hours a day plus producing, pretty much every day!br
br
They do this through either:br
br
- having wealthy parents who can fund them whilst they pursue their dreambr
- claiming benefits long-term. whilst making zero effort to find a job, but not being put under any real pressure by the government to get off benefitsbr
- drug dealing, where they can earn enough money to live off in just a few short hours at the weekendbr
br
For the rest of us though, if you don’t want to do any of the above, then the only solution is to work as little as you can get away with, and then spend every spare moment you can producing around work.br
br
I do actually earn enough money from trading sports to quit work, but the misses isn’t keen on that being my sole income, think I need to have another word in her ear!!br
br
I find my most productive time is really early morning, wake up with little ideas floating round my head and just have to go and try them out.
Got any jobs going Sonic Academy, I can make a mean cup of tea!!
Yeah the real world sucks eh, I only get an hour or two in the evening, the only advice I can give is dont sit there and glory listen. I listen once when I load it to get a feel and once when I am shutting down. You get so much more done when you work a couple of bars at a time and work on specific targets…
xpa - that is bloody sound advice. I tend to relisten to the opening couple of bars of a project (glory listening is a great description of this absolutely banal activity), then either shut it down to open another and repeat or just delete it. I’m going to start aiming for a few new bars each time I sit down now to keep projects moving. Thanks!br

I’m lucky to get an hour at night after work bathing feeding and playing with my little lad! After that I’m knackerd up since 5.30ish:doze:br
br
I’ve taken my MacBook to work to have a play in the van!br
br
I drive round listening to mixes and tunes and get loads of ideas so I try to write them down and practice at home.br
br
Really wish I could do what the likes of avicci did “40hour” week in the studio break for lunch etcbr
br
That’s a proper job fingers crossed on the euro 2night!
xpa, that is good advice, cause I do that all the time, listen to loops over and over nodding my head, you’re right it is pointless.
Yeah there’s loads of things I’ve found helps:br
*Don’t glory listenbr
*Export the tune each night and listen to it randomly through the day, then write down any changes I think of on a bit of paper (great for maximising your production time as its like a check list)br
*Reference it on different sources every now and again, saves on mastering timebr
*Turn off the Internet on my pcbr
*Turn off my phonebr
*listen to the style of music I’m making literally all daybr
*record any tune melodys that I have through out the day on my phone voice recorderbr
*bug people here for advice when I need it (being an active user really helps)br
*learn all the hotkeys (that’s a biggie)br
*learn to program synthsbr
*print off cheat sheets of chords and hotkeys etcbr
*IMPORTANT make sure I have milk and tea bagsbr

Honestly I’ve only been producing for just over a year whilst working full time, so understand your frustration (and i dont have kids!). Although lately ive come to realise its changing the way I live haha.br
Also don’t be upset when you get bad feedback, Some of my earlier stuff was slated for the mix, the drop, the melody etc. It made me determined to learn these areas and I think it makes you a better producer as it gives you areas to work on. br
