Hey Ant - I’m a big fan of Booka Shade but really didn’t like Teenage Spaceman track when I first heard it. Now, I really love it.
Love that last one… think its maybe more proggy than tech but still really nice… some really nice stuff.
I think I might just try to do vids on a bunch of loops like say 4… starting with the deeper stuff up to slightly tougher stuff.
then do a load of get that sounds on as many of the interesting sounds as possible.
or should i just pick one style and build a track?
Hey Phil - yeah the Atlas track was great. Def my kind of thing.
For me, I think a lot of these tracks seem to have really interesting loops. Many with elements that appear only once every 8 or 16 bars. Plus there’s a lot of modulation on sounds to make them evolve and change as the track progresses.
Lots of subtle swells in the builds and drops.
The elements that do have pitch to them seem, on the whole, quite filtered.
That’s my 2 cents anyway.
Whatever you do with the one off ‘get that sound’ tuts I think it’s key that there’s an arrangement tutorial for this as that’s where most people struggle.

In an ideal world I would like both, but if we have to choose I vote with Jon.
Also Jon - you need to post some more tracks here ;)
are people struggling with arrangements because they don’t know how to do it or is that its laborious and time consuming.
We have tons and tons of tutorials with arrangements…
What parts of arranging are you guys struggling with?
Well, for arranging, I think it’s less to do with “do this for 8 bars” then “do that” as that changes from track to track anyway, even withing any given genre.
It’s a broader issue of ‘techniques on how to build energy’, ‘how to take it away’, ‘impact drops’, ‘subtle drops’, and so on. Once you’ve defined those areas you can subdivide them into ‘using bass elements to do it’, ‘using percussive elements’, ‘using synths’, ‘using fx’ and then ‘combining them all’
Does that makes sense?
I really like this, its pretty dark and has a nice melody…
It would be nice to have something with harmony and melodies i know that makes alot of people on here physically sick, but come on its music. No one wants to listen to 8 minutes of just random noises…
Here it is,
I like the idea of a few loops covering all of the main styles along with lots of explanations of how to build the different sounds used from scratch.
When i listen to tracks I can separate out all of the different sounds and where they all come in and out in order to work out the arrangement fairly easily, but I have no idea of how to make up the individual sounds/effects used etc
I guess this is because I am only just starting to get into producing my own tracks , and hopefully with time i will begin to be able to hear a sound and know where to go to to try and reproduce it.
I like this from the other post:
[quote]jonsloan (22/07/2011)[hr]just to stray from Mark Knight for a minute there’s this… according to Beatport it’s Tech House so who am I to argue

This one is a little older, but I heard it at a festival a few weeks back and it sounded fantastic.

This is new from Sebastian Leger, less progressive than his older stuff.

I like the Idea to make 4 different Loop Tracks. i dont have any issue with arrangements . but maybe having each loop to be 8 or 16 loops long would be a plus.
cant wait for this tutorial
Arranging is something i find that never really gets the justice it deserves in tutorials.
Doing an arrangemnt in 1 hour i find really rushed and frustraiting as it never really turns out the way i like it.
In reality i spend about 2-3 weeks on my own tracks… I think contemplation and reflection away from the track is essiential in good arranging.
Ill have a ponder see if there is a better way doing it.
I think id be really cool if you made the Full tutorial and followed it with some tech tips on the genre itself but broad enough to apply it to anything…
Phil, why not just take a proffesional tech house track and copy its arrangement…
cant wait for this Tutorial.
Would like to add a few of my current faves:
